The family shared a statement expressing their deep sorrow over the loss of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather. According to the statement, Ogbeh passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025. Early Life and Academic Contributions

Born in Otukpo, Benue State, Ogbeh pursued higher education at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria and later at the University of Toulouse in France. His academic journey led him to become a teaching assistant and eventually head of the Language, Arts, and Social Sciences Department at Murtala College of Arts, Science, and Technology in 1977. This period laid the foundation for his future contributions to education and public service.

Public Service and Political Career

Ogbeh's entry into public service began with his election to the Benue State House of Assembly in 1979, where he served as Deputy Speaker. He later held significant roles in the federal government, including Federal Minister of Communications (1982–1983) and Minister of Steel Development during the Second Republic. His tenure was cut short by the coup of December 1983.

After focusing on agriculture, Ogbeh established rice mills, cashew plantations, debt community agricultural projects, and consultancy services. His return to national service saw him participate in key initiatives such as the National Constitutional Conference Commission in 1993 and the National Reconciliation Committee in 1995.

A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ogbeh served as National Chairman from 2001 to 2005. He is remembered for his principled stand against former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s third-term bid, which ultimately led to his resignation from the party.

Later Years and Contributions

In the final years of his career, Ogbeh was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, serving from 2015 to 2019. During this time, he continued to advocate for rural development and sustainable agricultural practices.

Beyond politics, Ogbeh was a multifaceted scholar and writer. He authored several plays, including Epitaph of Simon Kisulu, which was showcased at the Muson Centre in 2002. His literary works reflected his deep understanding of social issues and his commitment to cultural expression.
