OpenAI Reduces Microsoft's Profit Share to 8% by 2030

Image
OpenAI and Microsoft: A Shift in Profit-Sharing Dynamics OpenAI, the company behind the widely recognized AI chatbot ChatGPT, is reportedly considering a significant reduction in its future profit-sharing agreement with Microsoft. This change could see the current 20% profit-sharing ratio drop to around 8% by 2030, according to recent reports. This potential shift marks a major development in the relationship between two of the most influential players in the tech industry. Microsoft has long been a key partner for OpenAI. Since 2019, it has been the company's largest initial investor, pouring over $13 billion into the startup. This investment has allowed OpenAI to leverage Microsoft’s extensive computing infrastructure for developing its AI models and delivering services. In return, a portion of OpenAI’s profits was shared with Microsoft through the profit-sharing agreement. However, OpenAI appears to be diversifying its reliance on cloud infrastructure. The company is now expl...

Anthropic Blocks AI Sales to Chinese-linked Firms

Image
Anthropic Restricts AI Access to Chinese-Affiliated Companies Anthropic, a U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) company often seen as a competitor to OpenAI, has announced a significant decision: it will no longer sell its AI technology to companies affiliated with China. This move is aimed at preventing the use of its advanced AI systems for military and intelligence purposes. The Financial Times reported that this decision was made to ensure that Chinese entities do not benefit from the company's technology. In China, access to major AI chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Google’s Gemini is already restricted. However, some users have found ways around these restrictions by using virtual private networks (VPNs). Anthropic has now taken steps to completely block this practice. This new policy comes amid growing concerns about Chinese companies attempting to acquire U.S. technology through subsidiaries established abroad. The measure could extend to other Chi...

Image
Expansion of Restrictions on AI Access Anthropic, a prominent artificial intelligence startup backed by Amazon, has announced new restrictions that prevent Chinese-run companies and organizations from accessing its AI services. This decision is part of a broader effort to limit access in "authoritarian regions," reinforcing existing legal and security concerns. The company, known for its Claude chatbot, emphasizes AI safety and responsible development. Currently, companies based in China, as well as those from countries like Russia, North Korea, and Iran, are already excluded from using Anthropic's commercial services. Similarly, OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other US-based AI products are not available within China. This absence has led to the rise of local AI models developed by Chinese firms such as Alibaba and Baidu. In a recent update to its terms of service, Anthropic stated that it is now taking additional steps to enforce these restrictions. The company noted that some ...

This shift underscores the need for a fundamental reevaluation of leadership approaches and workforce readiness. In her keynote address, Dr. Hagan pointed out that tasks such as writing minutes and speeches, packaging goods, and driving vehicles are increasingly being handled by automation. While this technological advancement presents new opportunities, it also poses significant risks, particularly for economies like Ghana’s. AI Chatbots Linked to New Mental Health Crisis, Expert Warns

Image
The Growing Concern of AI Psychosis Microsoft's artificial intelligence chief, Mustafa Suleyman, has raised concerns about a phenomenon he calls 'AI psychosis.' This term refers to instances where individuals begin to believe that chatbots are alive or possess superhuman abilities. In a series of posts on X, Suleyman highlighted the increasing reports of delusions and unhealthy attachments linked to AI use. He noted that these cases are not limited to people with pre-existing mental health issues. While 'AI psychosis' is not an official diagnosis, it has been used to describe situations where users lose touch with reality after prolonged interaction with chatbots like ChatGPT or Grok. Some users become convinced that these systems have emotions or intentions, while others claim to have discovered hidden features or gained extraordinary abilities. Suleyman described this phenomenon as 'Seemingly Conscious AI,' an illusion created when systems mimic signs o...

AI Isn't Your Ally

Image
The Illusion of AI Companionship Mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman have been promoting the idea that people, including children, should form relationships with AI "friends" or "companions." At the same time, large technology companies are pushing the concept of "AI agents" that can assist in personal and professional tasks, handle routine work, and guide decision-making. However, it is essential to recognize that AI systems are not genuine friends, companions, or agents. They are machines, and this distinction must be clear. The term "artificial intelligence" is misleading. These systems are not truly intelligent, and what we call "AI" today is simply a set of tools designed to mimic certain cognitive functions. They do not possess true comprehension and are neither objective, fair, nor neutral. Furthermore, they are not becoming any smarter. AI systems rely on data to function, and increasingly, that data comes from other AI tools like ...
