Ethiopia's Digital Transformation Gains Momentum

Ethiopia is making significant strides in its digital transformation journey, with the Ministry of Innovation and Technology announcing that the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy has achieved remarkable success. This initiative has played a pivotal role in enhancing the country's competitiveness within the global digital economy.

The Ministry highlighted several key projects during a press conference held at the Ethiopian ICT Park. These include the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy, the 5 million Ethio-Coders Initiative, and new investment opportunities in technology and innovation. The event also served as a platform to discuss future plans for advancing Ethiopia's digital landscape.

Future Tech-2025 Expo: A Major Milestone

One of the most anticipated events under the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy is the Future Tech-2025 Expo. Scheduled to take place from November 28 to 30, 2025, at the New International Convention Center, this expo aims to showcase the achievements and progress made so far.

Muluken Kere, State Minister of Innovation and Technology, emphasized that the expo will be instrumental in sustaining the momentum of the strategy. He called on technologically skilled Ethiopians, as well as private and public companies, to actively participate. According to him, collective efforts are essential for building a robust digital economy.

Henok Ahmed, CEO of the Ethiopian ICT Park, added that the Future Tech-2025 Expo will serve as a platform to highlight the accomplishments of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy. He explained that the strategy focuses on promoting technology development products and services from both the public and private sectors. The expo is also expected to play a crucial role in advancing the upcoming Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy.

Key Areas of Progress

Abiot Bayu, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, noted that the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy has already made significant progress in several key areas. These include digital skills development, digital finance, digital identification, government services, online commerce, and the initiative to train 5 million Coders.

He also mentioned that modern frameworks like the Startup Proclamation are now being implemented to build on the successes of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy. These efforts have laid a solid foundation for enhancing Ethiopia’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.

Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships

Redwan Abdi, CEO of the Research Centre for Innovation Development and Cooperation, highlighted that the Future Tech-2025 Expo will strengthen public-private partnerships in technology development. He emphasized that the event will focus on investment and diplomacy, skills and innovation, policy development, and expanding foreign direct investment in Ethiopia.

According to Abdi, the expo is expected to involve around 1,000 international companies. This collaboration is seen as a vital step in fostering innovation and driving economic growth through technology.

Broader Participation and Collaboration

It has been confirmed that senior government officials, members of the diplomatic community, technology development partners, and various development companies will participate in the expo. This wide range of involvement underscores the importance of the event in shaping Ethiopia's digital future.

The Future Tech-2025 Expo represents not only a celebration of achievements but also a forward-looking initiative aimed at positioning Ethiopia as a leader in the digital economy. With continued support from all stakeholders, the country is well on its way to achieving its digital ambitions.
