Katsina State Launches Major Educational Initiative

Katsina State Government has taken a significant step towards improving the quality of education by launching a step-down training program for 18,000 teachers. Alongside this initiative, the government has also begun distributing 20,000 tablets to selected beneficiaries. This move is aimed at enhancing teaching methods and ultimately improving educational outcomes across the state.

The launch event was presided over by the Deputy Governor, Faruq Jobe, who represented Governor Dikko Radda. The ceremony was attended by various officials and stakeholders who emphasized the importance of these initiatives in transforming the education sector.

Key Initiatives Underway

During the event, the Deputy Governor highlighted several key projects that have been implemented to revamp the education system. These include:

  • Distribution of school materials and 30,000 uniforms to less privileged children.
  • Provision of specialized teaching aids for schools catering to blind and deaf students.
  • Installation of CCTV cameras in 130 schools to improve security.
  • Supplying 70 motorcycles to monitoring officers to enhance school supervision, especially in rural areas.

“These are not just statistics but a strategic investment in the future of our children,” he stated. “By equipping teachers with modern tools and the necessary training, we are aligning our educational system with global standards to prepare our students for 21st-century competitiveness.”

Commitment to Teacher Development

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musawa, praised the initiative as a "significant milestone" in the state’s efforts to restore the glory of education. She acknowledged the support from the World Bank, UBEC, and other partners, highlighting the government's ongoing commitment to empowering teachers through capacity-building programs.

Hajiya Binta Abdulmumini, the State Project Coordinator of the TESS programme, provided further details about the initiative. She explained that the program, implemented in collaboration with the World Bank and the Federal Government, will train 18,000 teachers through 90 master trainers who have already undergone specialized training. Each participating teacher will receive a tablet preloaded with lesson plans and digital teaching resources.

Support from Educators and Stakeholders

Chairperson of the Katsina State Teachers’ Association, Hajiya Rakiya Shehu, commended the government’s dedication to teachers and students. She urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure the success of the program.

  • Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi.
  • Commissioner of Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education.
  • Permanent Secretary of MBASE, Hajiya Ummulkhairi Ahmed Bawa.

  • Permanent Member II, Rabiu Idris Funtua.
  • Deputy Chief of Staff at the Government House, Alhaji Salisu Mamman Kadandani.
