SUST Introduces Bus Tracking System for Students

Image
Introduction to the SUST Bus Tracking System Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has taken a significant step towards improving student transportation by launching a new bus tracking system. This initiative aims to make commuting easier for students, ensuring they can navigate their daily routines with greater efficiency and convenience. The 'SUST Bus Tracking System' app was officially launched on Thursday at 11 am, marking a major milestone in the university's efforts to modernize its transport infrastructure. The app was introduced on a trial basis, allowing for real-time feedback and adjustments before a full-scale rollout. Development of the App The development of this innovative app was led by Saifur Rahman and his team from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. These students, part of the 2020-21 session, demonstrated remarkable dedication and technical expertise in creating a solution that addresses a common challenge faced by stu...

Ho Chi Minh City Seeks $2B Boost for Second Metro Line

Image
Overview of the Ben Thanh–Tham Luong Metro Line Expansion The long-stalled Ben Thanh–Tham Luong metro line in Ho Chi Minh City is undergoing a significant transformation. Officials have proposed increasing the total investment to VND52.047 trillion (US$1.98 billion), up from the previous amount of VND47.89 trillion. This increase aims to support expanded construction, updated technology, and rising costs associated with the project. The proposal was included in a revised plan for Metro Line 2 submitted by the Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR). The city has decided to shift the project's financing from ODA loans to its own budget, which has prompted the need for additional funding. Key Changes and Project Scope Alongside the nearly 9% increase in funding, MAUR has proposed expanding the project scope. This includes adding a new link to Metro Line 1 at Ben Thanh Station and upgrading facilities within the Tham Luong depot. These changes are intended to ensure the ro...

Exclusive: Kakao Mobility Seeks Metropolitan Taxi Exemption

Image
Kakao Mobility's Application for Regulatory Sandbox Sparks Concerns Kakao Mobility recently submitted an application to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for a mobility demonstration exception, aiming to remove regional restrictions on its premium taxi service, Venti. Currently, taxi operations are divided by region, but if the exception is granted, the Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon areas would be integrated into a single metropolitan zone, allowing Venti to operate freely within that region. This move has raised concerns among small and medium-sized taxi-hailing companies, who fear that Kakao Mobility’s existing dominance in the market could be further solidified. Integration of Premium Taxi Operational Areas The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced in July that it would grant a demonstration exception to integrate business zones for premium taxis among taxi-hailing platform operators. The plan involves merging the current divisions of Seoul...

Increased Transportation and Safety Measures for 2026 CSAT The 2026 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) is set to take place on the 13th, with a range of measures in place to ensure smooth transportation for examinees. As part of the efforts, Seoul subway services will increase their operations by 29 trips compared to regular schedules. This adjustment aims to accommodate the large number of students traveling to various test sites across the city. In addition to the increased subway service, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has introduced a comprehensive traffic plan to support students during the exam day. The city expects approximately 114,158 students to take the CSAT at 228 different locations within Seoul. To ensure that all students can reach their test sites on time, several transportation initiatives have been implemented. Enhanced Public Transport Services During peak hours, which are from 6:00 a.m. to 8:10 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., city buses and village buse...
