Pakistani Students Shine at International Nuclear Science Olympiad

Pakistani students made a significant mark on the global stage by securing four medals at the 2nd International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO), which took place in Malaysia. The event, held from July 30 to August 5, 2025, saw the country's young scientists excel in a competitive environment that brought together participants from around the world.

The achievement included one Gold, one Silver, and two Bronze medals, showcasing the growing strength of Pakistan’s scientific community. The competition was organized under the guidance of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and attracted participants from 19 countries, including China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Trkiye, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. This diverse participation highlighted the increasing interest in nuclear science among nations.

The Pakistani team was composed of talented students who had undergone rigorous selection and training processes. Their success was supported by experienced mentors, including esteemed professors from the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS). The following students represented Pakistan at INSO-2025:

• Muhammad Tayyab Bukhari from Beaconhouse School, Abbottabad, who won the Gold Medal.
• Ammar Asad Warraich from Siddique Public School, Islamabad, who earned the Silver Medal.
• Rawah Javed from Siddique Public School, Islamabad, who received a Bronze Medal.
• Tatheer Aima Naqvi from Chenab College, Jhang, who also secured a Bronze Medal.

These students were accompanied by two dedicated team leaders: Dr. Sajjad Tahir from PIEAS and Dr. Muhammad Maqsood from the Directorate of Education, PAEC. Their guidance ensured that the team was well-prepared and confident throughout the competition.
