Solar project finalized at Lagos multipurpose complex

A Major Step Forward in Sustainable Energy
Atnesystems Energy, in partnership with Metrol Fittings Limited, has successfully completed the installation of a 250-kilowatt-hour solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the Lagos State Multipurpose Agent Complex. This initiative, spearheaded by Tanwa Iwayemi, aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency across the eight-story building.
Iwayemi highlighted that each floor of the complex is equipped with its own PV and battery system, which allows for future scalability. “This project represents a significant milestone in achieving smarter and more sustainable infrastructure for the Lagos State government,” she stated. The solar solution not only provides clean and stable power but also ensures that critical security and communication systems operate without interruption, maintaining high service standards.
The project was not without its challenges. The building’s structure and open terrace roof posed significant engineering obstacles. However, the team prioritized safety throughout the process, implementing fire-resistant wiring, strict use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to electrical standards. “Installing 132 panels on that roof wasn’t easy,” Iwayemi said. “Cable routing, transporting heavy equipment without elevators, and managing both the building and car park array made it structurally complex.”
The project took three years to complete, from initial site inspections to the final system mounting. Adekunle, the Site Electrical Engineer with Metrol Fittings, described the experience as transformative. “Though I come from an electrical background, this project gave me solid hands-on experience with solar installation,” he said. “I’ve gained the confidence to recommend and execute similar projects in the future.”
The successful deployment of bifacial solar panels, inverters, and fire-resistant wiring has already proven its value in real-time performance for mission-critical technology systems. Zglob Engineering Services Limited, responsible for deploying advanced communication and security infrastructure across the complex, reports flawless operation since the integration of the solar solution.
“Our network of Cisco routers, Hikvision access systems, Grandstream IP PBX, and more—all require uninterrupted, stable power,” said Richard Madu. “Thanks to the solar PV and battery system, we’ve experienced seamless operations without a single system crash or delay due to power failure.”
Tanwa Iwayemi, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, brings over two decades of experience in the field. With a strong educational background and professional expertise, she has led numerous high-profile solar PV and battery storage projects for commercial and residential clients. She has also established global partnerships with manufacturers and specialists in the industry.
The solar installation at the Lagos State Multipurpose Agent Complex serves as a powerful demonstration of the potential of clean energy in Nigeria. As the country continues to seek sustainable solutions to its energy needs, such projects provide a blueprint for future developments. With its scalable design and emphasis on safety, this solar installation is set to have a lasting impact on the building’s operations and the environment.
