Gulf Allocates $100M for Troops and Families
Corporate Support for Military and Affected Communities
Gulf Development Plc, recognized as Thailand's largest energy company by market value and a key player in the telecommunications sector, has made a significant contribution to support the Royal Thai Army. The company donated 100 million baht to assist soldiers who have been injured or the families of those who lost their lives in the ongoing border conflict with Cambodia.
The donation was aimed at enhancing the quality of life and morale of frontline troops and their families, providing them with the necessary resources to recover and rebuild their lives with dignity. This gesture was officially presented at the Army Headquarters to Commander-in-Chief Gen Pana Klaewplodthuk and Lt Gen Boonsin Padklang, Commander of the Second Army Region.
Personal Connection and Corporate Responsibility
The initiative was driven by a personal connection to the military, as noted by CEO Sarath Ratanavadi. He shared that his father had served in the armed forces, which influenced his decision to support the cause. GULF had previously contributed to military operations by offering satellite communication services in remote areas. However, the escalating nature of the conflict led the company and its leadership to expand its support beyond technical assistance.
“This fund is specifically for the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice or were seriously wounded. As a Thai company, we believe it's our duty to stand with those who protect the nation,” Mr. Sarath emphasized.
Ongoing Community Outreach and Relief Efforts
In addition to the financial donation, GULF continues its community outreach through the GULF Care programme. This initiative has delivered over 2,000 relief kits to soldiers and civilians affected by the border tensions in several provinces, including Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket, and Ubon Ratchathani.
Furthermore, the company provided 1.2 million baht in direct support to soldiers who were injured by landmines during patrols in Ubon Ratchathani. These efforts highlight GULF’s commitment to addressing both immediate and long-term needs arising from the conflict.
Transparency and Public Engagement
The Second Army Region commander expressed deep gratitude to GULF for its generous contribution. A committee will be established to ensure that the donated funds are used transparently and effectively, aligning with the company’s intentions and objectives.
Mr. Sarath also encouraged Thais to contribute in any way they can, reinforcing the public’s shared commitment to national sovereignty and the welfare of those defending the country. His message underscores the importance of collective responsibility and solidarity in times of crisis.
Conclusion
Through its substantial donations and community initiatives, Gulf Development Plc has demonstrated a strong sense of corporate social responsibility. By supporting the military and affected communities, the company is playing a vital role in promoting stability and resilience in the face of ongoing challenges. Such actions not only reflect the company’s values but also serve as an example for other businesses to engage in meaningful ways.
