Economic Growth Projections for Taiwan and South Korea Recent economic growth projections suggest that Taiwan, supported by its leading semiconductor foundry TSMC, is expected to achieve a mid-5% growth rate this year. This contrasts with South Korea, which is anticipated to see a more modest growth of around 1%, influenced by sluggish domestic demand and other challenges. According to the International Finance Center on the 12th, the average forecast for Taiwan’s economic growth rate this year, as reported by eight overseas investment banks (IBs) as of the end of last month, stands at 5.3%. This represents an increase of 0.8 percentage points from the August-end forecast of 4.5%. It is also approximately 1 percentage point higher than the 4.45% figure recently presented by Taiwan’s Statistics Korea. Several investment banks have revised their forecasts upward. Nomura increased its growth forecast for Taiwan from 4.6% in August to 6.2% in September, marking an increase of 1.6 perce...

If science had been a priority, we might match the UAE's progress

A Reflection on Growth and Decline As we age, it's easy to forget the carefree days of our youth. However, nature often reminds us of the lessons we once overlooked. These lessons are embedded in age-old sayings such as "harvesting what you plant," "a stitch in time saves nine," and "spare the rod and spoil the child." These phrases reflect truths that become more apparent as we grow older. When I was 12 or 13 and joined secondary school, I found many scientific concepts confusing and uninteresting. My Physics teacher, a Catholic Reverend Brother, struggled to explain the gravitational pull on a falling object that accelerated at an "increasingly increasing rate" of 9.8 metres "per second per second." My mind would drift away, imagining how long I had left before I could abandon these "crazy" sciences. To avoid dozing off during the class, I tried to create nicknames for the kind-hearted priest and sketch cartoons of hi...

LG Chem's 10,000-Child Hormone Study Unveiled

Key Research Findings on Growth Hormone Treatment for Short Stature LG Chem recently shared significant progress in its research on growth hormone treatment for children with short stature. These findings were presented at the 20th LGS (LG Growth Study) Symposium, which took place in June and was attended by pediatric endocrinology specialists. The symposium focused on the long-term safety of growth hormone treatment over 12 years and its efficacy over four years. Since 2012, LG Chem has been conducting extensive studies to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of administering growth hormone to South Korean children. This ongoing effort is part of a larger initiative that aims to track the outcomes of growth hormone treatment for children with short stature over an extended period. Professor Hong Yong-hee from Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital delivered a presentation titled "12th-Year Safety and 4th-Year Efficacy Results of Growth Hormone Treatment." According to...
