Sudan Calls for International Support to Aid Returnees Sudan has urgently requested assistance from United Nations agencies to support 2.2 million people who have returned to their homes in areas recaptured by the army from paramilitary forces, according to a statement made by the country’s representative in Geneva. The returnees include 1.7 million internally displaced individuals and others who have come back from neighboring countries such as Egypt, South Sudan, and Chad. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The event also involved the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and Doctors Without Borders (MSF). Hamid emphasized that the government is currently working to meet the immediate needs of returnees, including access t...

Hanwha's Six-Year Support Empowers Youth Toward Independence

Hanwha Impact's Long-Term Commitment to Supporting Youth Transitioning into Society Hanwha Impact has been actively involved in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at supporting young people who are preparing to become independent. Since 2020, the company has focused on helping these individuals, who have left child welfare facilities after turning 18, navigate their first steps into society. These youths often face significant challenges due to a lack of stable income and support systems. Over the past six years, Hanwha Impact has worked to provide a safety net that enables them to achieve economic independence. The company’s efforts began in 2020 with annual donations to child welfare institutions in three key regions—Seoul, Ulsan, and Daesan in Chungnam—where Hanwha Impact operates. These contributions are made possible through a matching grant system, where the company matches voluntary donations from its employees. To date, the total amount raised through...

The Last Gift Programme: A New Approach to Medical Research At the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), a groundbreaking initiative called Last Gift is offering terminally ill patients the chance to play a crucial role in shaping future medical treatments. This program redefines the traditional approach to clinical research by allowing individuals with limited life expectancy to contribute their bodies and experiences to scientific progress. Their unique circumstances challenge the usual risk-benefit assessments that are typically applied to clinical trials, enabling researchers to engage them in ways that would not be feasible with healthier participants. The shift towards human-centric drug testing has been supported by leading U.S. research agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). These organizations have increasingly recognized the limitations of animal-based studies, which often fail to produce results relevant t...
