Hanwha Impact's Long-Term Commitment to Supporting Youth Transitioning into Society

Hanwha Impact has been actively involved in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at supporting young people who are preparing to become independent. Since 2020, the company has focused on helping these individuals, who have left child welfare facilities after turning 18, navigate their first steps into society. These youths often face significant challenges due to a lack of stable income and support systems. Over the past six years, Hanwha Impact has worked to provide a safety net that enables them to achieve economic independence.

The company’s efforts began in 2020 with annual donations to child welfare institutions in three key regions—Seoul, Ulsan, and Daesan in Chungnam—where Hanwha Impact operates. These contributions are made possible through a matching grant system, where the company matches voluntary donations from its employees. To date, the total amount raised through this initiative has reached 120 million Korean won. The funds are used for various purposes, including mentoring program fees, educational expenses, certification costs, housing settlement support, and university tuition. These resources are designed to strengthen the self-reliance capabilities of the youth and help them build a more stable future.

Expanding Support Through Mentoring Programs

In addition to financial assistance, Hanwha Impact has also launched the “Virtuous Cycle Mentoring” program. This initiative, which started in 2022, involves mentor Park Kang-bin, a former youth preparing for independence and an activist. The program offers a comprehensive approach to personal development, including special lectures, small-group counseling, university campus visits, career exploration, and emotional management experiences. These activities are designed to enhance participants' self-reliance skills and prepare them for life beyond child welfare facilities.

This year, five mentoring sessions are currently underway for high school students from institutions supported by Hanwha Impact’s business sites. According to a representative from the company, the program is aligned with the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s standardized self-reliance support program. It has received positive feedback for providing practical assistance in career exploration and daily independence. The support offered goes beyond simple donations or information sharing, instead serving as a foundation for these youths to design their own futures through realistic advice and motivation.

Sharing Success Stories and Encouraging Employee Involvement

To further raise awareness and encourage employee participation, Hanwha Impact regularly shares details about its support programs, along with updates on the academic and employment achievements of the youths it helps. This information is shared through an internal bulletin board, which serves as a platform to inspire voluntary donations from employees.

In addition to internal communication, the company has also taken its message to a broader audience. On the 15th of last month, a video titled “A Start Not Alone, the Tomorrow Led by Youth” was released on Hanwha Group’s official YouTube channel, “Hanwha TV.” The video highlights the purpose and activities of the support project, offering a glimpse into the impact of Hanwha Impact’s work.

A Continued Commitment to Youth Development

A representative from Hanwha Impact emphasized the company’s long-term commitment to supporting youths transitioning into adulthood. They stated, “We will continue to be a partner that helps youths preparing for independence stabilize in society by supporting their changes and growth. We will maintain continuous interest and support.”

Through its ongoing efforts, Hanwha Impact is making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who are taking their first steps into the world. By combining financial assistance, mentorship, and community engagement, the company is helping to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for those who need it most.
