NASENI and NIDCOM Unite to Fuel Diaspora Innovations

Strategic Collaboration Between NASENI and NiDCOM to Boost Innovation
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) are actively working together to foster innovation and technological advancement. This partnership aims to leverage the expertise of Nigerians both within the country and those living abroad, creating a platform for knowledge exchange and collaborative development.
During a strategic meeting at NiDCOM's headquarters, the leaders of both organizations emphasized the importance of this collaboration. The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, and the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the initiative as a timely intervention. They highlighted how this partnership will connect local innovators with scientists, engineers, technologists, and entrepreneurs from the diaspora, enabling a more cohesive approach to technological growth.
Halilu outlined several key projects currently being implemented by NASENI. One of these is Revolut, a payment platform that has already gained traction among thousands of Nigerians. It offers low-cost, real-time transfers, making financial transactions more accessible and efficient. Another significant project is the Innovation Hub and Incubation Programme, which provides funding and support to Nigerian scientists and innovators, both domestically and internationally.
Additionally, NASENI is involved in the Delta-2 project, a collaboration with the Czech Republic that is entering its third phase this September. This initiative focuses on bringing new technologies and fostering international partnerships to benefit Nigeria.
Halilu also discussed two new projects that he presented during his visit to NiDCOM. The first is a government-backed payment platform similar to Revolut, designed to be seamless, flexible, and multi-currency. It will offer real-time monitoring at affordable rates. The second project aims to engage Nigerians in the diaspora, particularly those in science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, to develop practical projects that can contribute to economic growth.
Dabiri-Erewa praised the work of NASENI and acknowledged the potential of NiDCOM’s database of professionals. She emphasized that the partnership would create opportunities for Nigerians worldwide to collaborate for the country’s progress. By sharing ideas, skills, and experiences, the initiative aims to build a stronger and more innovative Nigeria, especially under the Renewed Hope Agenda led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dabiri-Erewa assured NASENI that the Commission will provide the necessary support for their initiatives. She also encouraged the NASENI team to participate in the 8th Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS), scheduled to take place from November 11-13, 2025, in Abuja.
Both organizations have agreed to establish a joint working committee to streamline areas of collaboration. This committee will focus on designing projects centered around science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as broader engagement with the diaspora community.
This partnership represents a significant step towards harnessing the collective potential of Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to drive innovation and technological progress. Through sustained collaboration and shared goals, NASENI and NiDCOM aim to create a future where Nigeria can thrive as a hub of scientific and technological excellence.
