Pantami Denounces Katsina Mosque Attack, Demands Tech-Driven Security Measures

A Tragic Attack and Calls for Justice

A tragic incident has shaken the community of Malumfashi Local Government Area in Katsina State, where a mosque was attacked during the Fajr prayer, resulting in the loss of many innocent lives. The attack has drawn widespread condemnation, including from Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, a former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy.

Pantami expressed deep sorrow over the event, offering his condolences to the families of the victims, the Unguwan Mantau community, and the people of Katsina State. He emphasized the profound spiritual significance of the Fajr prayer, which is considered one of the most challenging yet rewarding acts of worship. The attack, he noted, was an affront to humanity and faith.

According to reports from PRNigeria and local sources, at least 27 worshippers were killed and several others injured when armed bandits stormed the mosque. Community leaders and hospital officials confirmed the casualties, highlighting the severity of the tragedy.

Pantami, who also serves as the Co-Chairman of the African Union's 4th Industrial Revolution Policy Council (ASRIC), described the attackers as "worse than animals." He condemned their actions, calling them a betrayal of the essence of humanity. The former minister urged security agencies to take decisive and vigorous action to track down the perpetrators and put an end to such criminal activities.

In his statement, Pantami reiterated his long-standing recommendation that Nigerian security forces adopt geospatial analysis using mobile location data, cell tower signals, and GPS tracking to identify and apprehend bandits. He emphasized that this approach could significantly enhance the ability of security agencies to respond effectively to such attacks.

"Security agencies may wish to use geospatial analysis using location data from phones, which could help track the phones in the environment at the time the crime was committed. This is something I have been recommending for six years, privately and otherwise," he stated.

Beyond the call for action, Pantami prayed for the repose of the victims' souls, asking Allah to accept them as martyrs and grant their families the strength to bear the loss. He also called for peace, stability, and security across Nigeria, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to safeguard the nation from such tragedies.

The incident has sparked renewed discussions on the need for improved security measures and the importance of leveraging technology to combat crime. As communities mourn their losses, there is a growing demand for accountability and effective strategies to prevent future attacks.

The attack on the mosque underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to security in Nigeria. It calls for not only immediate action but also long-term solutions that address the root causes of such violence. The role of technology in enhancing security cannot be overstated, and experts like Pantami continue to advocate for its integration into national security strategies.

As the nation grapples with the aftermath of this tragedy, the voices of those affected serve as a reminder of the human cost of violence and the importance of unity in the face of adversity. The path forward requires collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to protecting the lives and well-being of all citizens.
