Rising UFO Sightings and the Mystery of Metallic Orbs

In recent years, reports of mysterious unidentified flying objects (UFOs) have captured public attention, particularly with the emergence of small metallic orbs hovering over the United States. These sightings have raised questions about their origin and purpose, prompting investigations by both military and civilian organizations.

According to a new report from the crowdsourced platform Enigma, which allows people to document UFO sightings, there have been over 8,000 reported incidents across the U.S. between December 2022 and June 2025. Among these, 422 specifically mention metallic orbs. Most of these sightings occurred between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., often near military installations in states like New York, California, and Arizona.

Eyewitnesses, including civilians, pilots, and military personnel, have described seeing these spheres hover silently before moving at high speeds without leaving any trace of their departure. Some sightings have been captured on video or radar, but many remain unexplained. One witness in Brooklyn, for example, reported seeing two metallic, liquid-like objects hovering for about two minutes near Fort Hamilton in June 2024. Another individual in California described a metallic orb above Los Angeles shortly after a squadron of planes flew by.

The Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) has been tasked with investigating these claims. While many sightings have been attributed to natural phenomena such as flocks of birds, conventional aircraft, drones, balloons, or other explainable objects, some cases remain unresolved. According to AARO’s annual report, out of 757 UFO cases between May 2023 and June 2024, 21 were classified as unresolved sightings.

Despite efforts by the Pentagon and civilian groups like the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC), many of these incidents continue to baffle military officials. The mystery extends beyond the U.S., with similar orbs documented worldwide, from Puerto Rico to the Middle East. Pilots during World War II even reported encountering similar objects over European skies.

Enigma’s report highlights that more than 360 'metallic orb' sightings have occurred within a few miles of military bases in the U.S. In three cases, witnesses reported orbs coming within five miles of locations such as Fort Hamilton in New York, Papago Military Reserve in Arizona, and Los Angeles Air Force Base. These incidents have sparked concern among military personnel, who are unable to provide clear explanations for what they’ve seen.

One notable encounter was captured by a MQ-9 Reaper drone in the Middle East in 2022. Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, former director of AARO, warned that if these videos didn’t prove the existence of aliens, they were evidence that a rival foreign power could be conducting activities "in our backyard."

Some theories suggest these orbs could be surveillance devices from foreign powers like China or Russia. A 2022 report in the New York Times noted that government officials believed these objects might be advanced drones due to their agility and ability to evade radar. This theory gained traction last year when numerous drones were spotted flying over the East Coast, including near key military sites and President Trump’s property in New Jersey.

Enigma’s data also shows that many of the orb sightings have concentrated in Texas and Florida. In fact, visitors at Disney World’s Epcot in Florida recently witnessed a glowing orb appearing over the amusement park. After searching online and finding no information about drones or satellites in the area, Morgan Huelsman, digital director of The Bobby Bones Show, described the object as a “UFO,” adding, “definitely a UFO with aliens.”

Sightings have also been reported over critical infrastructure such as power plants and naval vessels at sea. However, one of the most compelling pieces of evidence comes from Colombia, where locals recovered a metallic sphere that had been seen hovering over the town of Buga in March. Dubbed the “Buga Sphere,” it has become a topic of discussion among UFO researchers. Scientists claim the object contains a maze of fiber-optic wires, suggesting it can send and receive signals. After crashing to the ground following a collision with a power line, the sphere reportedly dehydrated the field it landed in, killing all the grass and soil in its path. This led to speculation that the object produced an energy field.

Despite this, some researchers, like Dr. Julia Mossbridge from the University of San Diego, doubt the authenticity of the Buga Sphere, calling it a “man-made art project.” The sphere has since been taken to Mexico for further analysis, leaving many questions unanswered.
