For fiscal year 2025, CRS reported 609,000 bales harvested by July 31, while PCGA recorded only 301,000 bales. This significant discrepancy has raised concerns among stakeholders who rely on accurate data for critical decisions in the textile and agriculture sectors.

CRS officials explained that their figures are based on advanced tools such as GPS mapping, random sampling, and internationally recognized methods supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization. To further improve accuracy, CRS has requested the Federal Board of Revenue to implement a system that ensures real-time reporting at all ginning factories. Officials argue that under-invoicing at these facilities is another reason for discrepancies, which leads to challenges in policy decisions. Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has shown interest in taking over the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) after recent financial disputes were resolved with government support. At the same time, heavy rains in cotton-growing areas have lowered the supply of high-quality cotton, pushing local prices to Rs16,400-16,600 per maund. Industry experts caution that further rupee depreciation may drive prices even higher in the coming weeks.
