24-Year-Old Woman Dies Days After Being Discharged Twice Post-Greece Trip
A Tragic Loss: The Story of Georgia Taylor
Tributes have been pouring in for a young woman whose life was cut short in an unexpected and heartbreaking manner. Georgia Taylor, a 24-year-old from Gwaelod-g-Garth in Wales, passed away on the early hours of August 21 after a week-long trip to the Greek island of Zante. Her death has left her family, friends, and community in shock and mourning.
A Sudden Illness
Georgia's health issues began in June when she developed rashes on her fingers. Family members advised her to stop wearing her rings, suspecting an allergic reaction. However, by July, her condition worsened. Her face became swollen, and a rash spread up her arm. She visited a local GP in London, where she was prescribed antihistamines and hydrocortisone, assuming it was an allergy. Despite the treatment, the puffiness did not subside, and the swelling made it difficult for her to go to work.
A few days later, Georgia felt breathless and went to A&E. Doctors checked some tests and sent her home again with more antihistamines. This pattern of treatment continued, but her symptoms persisted.
A Trip to Greece
The family decided to take a trip to Greece at the start of August. Georgia seemed generally well during the trip, though she developed a "niggling pain" in her right calf while walking up a hill. Her mother, Nicola, said that despite the pain, Georgia could hardly walk. They visited a chemist, where she was given ibuprofen gel and some painkillers, which provided temporary relief.
After returning home, Georgia seemed fine, though her leg still hurt. She went to Worcester for the weekend with friends, and upon returning home, she reported that her leg was in agony. A family member arranged for her to see a physiotherapist.
A Rapid Decline
Georgia was scheduled for a physio appointment around 6 pm on August 20. However, she messaged her mother to hurry because she was feeling unwell and needed to go to the hospital. Upon arrival, things took a sudden turn. Emergency services arrived quickly and transported Georgia to the University Hospital of Wales, where she tragically passed away with her family by her side.
The cause of Georgia’s death is still under investigation. Her parents, Nicola and John, described the events as "awful" and "unimaginable pain." They said they were in complete denial, still struggling to come to terms with the loss.
A Life Full of Joy
Georgia was remembered by her family as someone who was always healthy and rarely missed work. She was described as "never being an ill or a sickly person." Her brother, Joe, 21, shared that Georgia had many talents, enjoyed skiing and running, and had completed the London Marathon earlier in the year in memory of their grandfather.
Nicola described Georgia as "always so happy" with a "completely infectious laugh" that "lit up the room." She had "loads and loads of friends, like a magnet," and her presence brought joy to everyone around her.
A Celebration of Life
More than 900 people attended Georgia’s funeral on September 25, a testament to the impact she had on those who knew her. Her family has set up a fundraising page to collect donations for charity, hoping to honor her memory and support others in need.
