Asia's '2nd Most Beautiful Island' Hits 1.2M Foreign Visitors

Phu Quoc, a stunning island that was recently recognized as the second most beautiful in Asia by readers of American magazine Condé Nast Traveler, has seen a significant increase in foreign visitors. Between January and September this year, the island welcomed 1.2 million international tourists, marking a 65.8% rise compared to the same period last year. This growth has already exceeded the target set for this year.
In the previous year, Phu Quoc received 960,000 foreign tourists, with an aim to reach 1 million visitors this year. So far, the island has attracted 6.5 million visitors in total, including domestic travelers. This figure surpasses last year’s total of 5.9 million, according to the Department of Tourism in An Giang Province.
Andy Nguyen, the director of Sunset Beach Resort & Spa Phu Quoc, highlighted that international guests now make up approximately 90% of the visitors in recent months. He also mentioned that revenue has increased by 30% year-on-year.
"The high number of international guests, even during the rainy season, helps us maintain stable occupancy, increase service revenue, and expand opportunities to promote the island and invest in more entertainment and cultural activities—improving both quality and appeal for visitors," he said.
The peak travel season on Phu Quoc typically runs from October to May, when the weather is sunny and the sea is clear. As the final months of the year approach, the island's tourism outlook appears increasingly positive.
Sun Phu Quoc Airways, a carrier owned by Sun Group, the operator of resorts and theme parks, is preparing for its inaugural flight on November 1. This development is expected to further boost the island's appeal to international travelers.
Recently, Phu Quoc ranked third on Travel + Leisure magazine's list of the 10 best islands in the Asia-Pacific region, trailing only Bali and Koh Samui. Last year, it was voted the second most beautiful island in Asia, after Bali of Indonesia, by readers of Condé Nast Traveler.
