Dozens Killed in RSF Shelling of Sudan's El Fasher Shelter

Escalation of Violence in El Fasher
On October 11, 2025, in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, a tragic incident unfolded when the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled a displacement shelter, resulting in the deaths of at least 60 civilians and injuring dozens. Eyewitnesses and medical sources reported the devastating attack that occurred over two days, Friday and Saturday.
The RSF has been intensifying its attacks on civilian targets in El Fasher for several days. Using artillery and drones, they have destroyed essential infrastructure such as markets, water sources, and health facilities. Residents described how the paramilitary group periodically raids displacement sites, leading to killings, arrests, and forced displacements.
The Dar al-Arqam School Attack
A drone launched by the RSF targeted the Dar al-Arqam school on Saturday, resulting in the death of 37 civilians, some of whom were burned to death inside the classrooms. Mohamed Khamis Douda, a spokesperson for the displaced at Zamzam camp, shared this grim information with Sudan Tribune.
Douda also mentioned that the same center was hit by artillery fire on Friday evening. The shells targeted underground shelters where displaced people sought refuge, killing at least 30 individuals. Witnesses described the attack as involving drones and heavy artillery, which destroyed large parts of the center, housing hundreds of displaced people, mostly women, children, and the elderly.
A Devastating Sequence of Attacks
Survivors recounted that a drone fired four missiles. Two missiles struck shelters directly on Friday evening, killing 30 people and completely destroying the structures. When some tried to flee to another part of the center, the drone pursued them, firing two more missiles at dawn on Saturday, killing another 37 people.
The total death toll from the two attacks reached at least 67, with more than 40 wounded. Due to the dangerous security situation, some bodies remain unburied, highlighting the severity of the humanitarian crisis.
Dire Humanitarian Conditions
The remaining residents of El Fasher face dire humanitarian conditions, with many forced to live in underground shelters or large metal containers to protect themselves from constant bombardment. The Dar al-Arqam center houses over 150 displaced families who face severe shortages of food, water, and medical care amid the ongoing fighting.
Previous Incidents and Military Claims
This attack follows a separate incident on October 7, when RSF fighters killed several displaced people at the Abu Talib school shelter, according to reports. That ground attack came after the center was hit by more than ten artillery shells and a drone strike, which killed over 15 people and wounded dozens.
Military sources claim the RSF is targeting shelters and civilian gathering places like mosques and hospitals to force the remaining residents to flee El Fasher. This pattern of violence underscores the urgent need for international attention and intervention to address the escalating crisis in the region.
