Tragic Fire Claims Lives of Four Family Members in Gyeonggi Province

A devastating fire at a restaurant in Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong County, Gyeonggi Province, has led to the tragic deaths of four family members. The incident occurred on the evening of the 11th, when flames engulfed a raw fish restaurant in Cheongpyeong-ri, Cheongpyeong-myeon. The fire broke out around 11:19 p.m. and took firefighters over three hours to fully contain, with the last of the flames extinguished by approximately 2:45 a.m. on the 12th.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the first-floor restaurant was already completely consumed by fire when they arrived. The victims, who were inside the building during the outbreak, were unable to escape in time. Rescue teams found them in cardiac arrest and transported them to a nearby hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The four deceased individuals included a couple in their 40s who owned the restaurant, as well as their teenage siblings. Their loss has left the local community in shock and mourning. Authorities are still working to determine the exact cause of the fire, with investigators examining multiple potential factors, including electrical issues.

In response to the fire, a significant number of personnel and equipment were deployed to the scene. A total of 91 individuals, including 72 firefighters and 17 police officers, worked alongside 35 pieces of equipment—such as seven pump trucks and nine rescue vehicles—to combat the blaze. Despite their efforts, the fire caused extensive damage to the building, which measured 171 square meters, along with its furnishings.

The estimated property damage from the incident amounts to 59,000,000 Korean won. While the destruction is significant, the focus remains on the human toll of the tragedy and the need for further investigation into what led to the fire.

Fire officials have stated that the flames had already spread throughout the building by the time they arrived, making rescue efforts extremely difficult.
