Hamas Official: Hostages to Begin Release Monday Morning
Israeli Hostages to Be Released as Truce Begins
Senior Hamas officials have confirmed that the release of Israeli hostages will begin on Monday morning. This development follows the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) completing their partial withdrawal from Gaza on Friday, marking a significant step in the ongoing conflict.
The 72-hour window for the return of all 48 Israeli hostages—20 of whom are believed to still be alive—has now started, as outlined in the agreement brokered under Donald Trump’s peace plan. Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas official, stated to AFP: 'According to the signed agreement, the prisoner exchange is set to begin on Monday morning as agreed, and there are no new developments on this matter.'
Under the terms of the deal, Hamas plans to release all remaining hostages in exchange for approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. At the same time, the Israeli military will begin its withdrawal from the majority of Gaza, signaling a shift in the region's dynamics.
Search for Missing Hostages
At the start of the week, Hamas mentioned that it was still searching for some of the slain hostages held in the Gaza Strip. In response, a taskforce was established to locate the deceased missing hostages, according to an official who spoke with the Daily Mail. Representatives from Israel, the United States, Egypt, and Qatar are involved in this effort.

Trump's Role in the Peace Process
On Wednesday night, former U.S. President Donald Trump praised the global collaboration that contributed to the landmark deal between Israel and Hamas. During a telephone interview with American TV presenter Sean Hannity, Trump said: 'This is more than Gaza. This is peace in the Middle East.' He emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating that it represented a 'great day for the world' and imagining a prosperous future for the war-torn area.
'The whole world has come together on this one, Israel, every country has come together. This has been a fantastic day,' he remarked. 'This is a great day for the world. This is a wonderful day, a wonderful day for everybody.'
Trump is expected to deliver a historic speech at the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, in Jerusalem on Monday. He will meet with those freed before traveling to Egypt for a summit on Gaza with world leaders.
Ending a Two-Year Conflict
The latest truce represents a crucial step toward ending a devastating two-year conflict that began with Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The attack led to the deaths of over 1,200 people and resulted in the taking of 251 hostages.
As the situation continues to evolve, many are watching closely to see if this truce will lead to lasting peace in the region. Key questions remain about whether the long-awaited truce in Gaza is finally within reach and whether the dramatic hostage release talks will result in a breakthrough. The exchange of 1,000 Palestinian prisoners for 33 hostages has also sparked interest in the potential for a historic truce.
Could the Trump-brokered deal finally bring peace to the 15-month Israel-Hamas conflict and secure the safety of American hostages? These are critical questions that will shape the future of the region.
