Indices mixed mid-session: Dhaka falls, Chattogram rises

Mixed Performance in Bangladesh's Stock Markets

On Monday, the stock markets in Bangladesh showed a mixed trend during the first half of the trading session. While the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX) experienced a decline, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw an increase in its overall index.

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX) Performance

During the first hour of trading, the key index of the DSEX dropped by 2 points. However, the Shariah-based DSES and the blue-chip DS30 indices each gained 2 points. This divergence in performance highlights the varied reactions among different segments of the market.

Most of the companies listed on the DSE saw a decline in their share prices. Out of the total number of companies, 133 experienced price increases, while 182 faced declines. Additionally, 80 companies saw no change in their share prices.

The total turnover on the DSE exceeded Tk 380 crore in the first half of the trading session, indicating significant trading activity despite the overall downward movement in the main index.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) Performance

In contrast, the overall index of the CSE rose by 26 points during the same period. This upward movement suggests positive sentiment among investors in the Chittagong market.

However, despite the index gain, most of the companies on the CSE witnessed a fall in prices. Specifically, 57 companies advanced, 61 declined, and 21 remained unchanged. This indicates that while the overall market was up, individual stock performances were mixed.

The turnover at the CSE stood at over Tk 4.40 crore in the first half of the trading session, reflecting active trading but at a lower level compared to the DSE.

Additional Market Developments

The DSE has also issued a warning to investors regarding dealings with Moshihor Securities due to allegations of fraud. This development underscores the importance of caution and due diligence when engaging with financial institutions.

Key Takeaways from the Trading Session

  • Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX):
  • The key index fell by 2 points.
  • The DSES and DS30 indices rose by 2 points each.

As the trading session continues, further developments will likely shape the market's direction in the coming days.
