A New Mega Town in the UK

A groundbreaking development is set to transform the UK landscape with the creation of a new mega town known as Brabazon New Town. Located in South Gloucestershire, this ambitious project is expected to be completed by autumn 2026 and is part of the broader West Innovation Arc (WIA) developments.

The new town will be built on the former Filton Airfield in north Bristol, with YTL handling the construction. So far, planning permission has been granted for 6,500 homes, with the potential to expand to 25,000 in the future. In addition to residential properties, the project includes plans for student accommodation that can house 2,000 individuals.

Economic Impact and Infrastructure Development

Brabazon New Town is not just about housing; it's also a significant economic boost for the region. The project is anticipated to create 30,000 new jobs and contribute £5 billion to the local economy. To support this growth, more than £100 million is being invested in local infrastructure, including a new railway station and bus service.


Additional investments include the development of cycle paths and walking routes, making the town more accessible and environmentally friendly. Education facilities are also a key component of the project, with three new schools and community facilities aimed at supporting lifelong learning.

Entertainment and Commercial Spaces

The mega town will feature a live entertainment facility capable of accommodating 20,000 people. This space will include an aerospace-themed digital entertainment hub, exhibition areas, and conferencing spaces. For commercial purposes, 3.6 million square feet of space will be allocated for shops, offices, and other businesses.


Residents will also have access to a network of parks and outdoor areas, offering plenty of green space. One of the highlights is the planned 15-acre Brabazon Park and lake, which will be the largest in the South West for around 50 years.

Community Vision and Progress

Seb Loyn, Director of Planning and Development at YTL Developments, expressed enthusiasm about the project. He stated, "We welcome the fact that the West Innovation Arc with Brabazon at its heart has been recommended by the Government's new towns task force."

Construction has already begun on the new mega town, with hundreds of new homes completed and occupied by residents. YTL has invested £400 million in the project, signaling a strong commitment to its success.

Seb added, "With work already underway at Brabazon, this gives us a head start as one of the country's flagship new towns. This recommendation is a vote of confidence in the vision we share with our partners and the community: to build a place with a soul, where culture, green space, and opportunity come together."
