Nguvu Mining CEO Honored with Global Power Women Award

A Trailblazer in the Global Mining Industry
Angela List, a prominent mining magnate from Ghana, has made history by becoming the first Ghanaian to receive the 2025 Global Power Female Award. This prestigious recognition celebrates outstanding women who have significantly shaped leadership narratives and driven meaningful change across the globe. The award ceremony took place in New York, United States of America, during the United Nations General Assembly.
The Global Power Forum (GPF), which organizes the event, is a high-level platform that brings together influential figures from various sectors. It is a collaboration between the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD) and the African Leadership Organization (ALO). The annual gathering features Heads of State, First Ladies, global business leaders, and change-makers from Africa, South America, the Caribbean Islands, and the global diaspora.
Angela List, the CEO of Nguvu Mining, was honored for her bold leadership and remarkable achievements in the mining sector. Her induction into the Global Power Women Network (GPWN) further highlights her status as a key player in the global business landscape.
A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation
With over two decades of experience in the mining industry, Angela List has demonstrated exceptional business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit. Nguvu Mining, the company she founded, operates in several West African countries, including Mali, Liberia, and Burkina Faso. The company's portfolio also includes Adamus Resources Limited in Ghana and Northern Ashanti Mines, which is set to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026.
Currently, Nguvu Mining produces approximately 150,000 ounces of gold annually. This output is expected to increase to at least 200,000 ounces once Northern Ashanti reaches full production. Angela attributes the company’s success to the dedication of her staff and their commitment to safe mining practices and community development.
Gold Prices Soar, Benefits Extend to Communities
Gold prices have experienced a significant surge in the past 24 months, with current prices hovering around $3,800 per ounce. This represents a 194% increase from October 2023, when the price stood at $1,990 per ounce. Analysts predict that the ongoing U.S. government shutdown over the debt ceiling could push the price beyond the $4,000 mark.
This rise in gold prices presents an opportunity for increased returns on production costs. However, Angela List emphasizes that the benefits will extend to the communities where Nguvu Mining operates. The company has already implemented initiatives such as scholarships, school construction, and financial assistance for local traders.
“We have a built-in mechanism to ensure that our contributions to host communities increase as gold prices rise,” said Angela. “We are committed to transforming the narrative of mining by making a lasting impact on the lives of our people.”
Pioneering a Path for Women in Mining
Angela List stands out as one of the most accomplished female mining entrepreneurs in Africa. Her ability to manage multiple assets across different jurisdictions has earned her widespread recognition. She is not only proud of her achievements but also passionate about creating opportunities for other women in the industry.
Speaking about the challenges faced by African women in the mining sector, Angela acknowledged the male-dominated nature of the industry. “There are challenges, but at Nguvu, we are here to go the long haul. With the right leadership, regulatory compliance, and access to capital, we will remain at the top of the mining chain.”
She added, “There can be no excuses. I am blazing the trail for many more women to become mining entrepreneurs. We must perform as expected of us. I believe this will lead to more women entering the mining space as engineers, executives, and professionals.”
A Unified Vision for Global Leadership
The 2025 Global Power Forum marked a strategic evolution by merging the Global Power Women Conference (GPWC) and the International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL) into a single inclusive event. This integration reflects the growing importance of influence, partnerships, and collective impact in shaping global power dynamics.
The forum has become a powerful platform for amplifying voices from across the world, bridging continents, and strengthening women’s leadership in the Global South.
