Teen Author Transforms Visa Denial into a Story of Hope
A Story of Resilience and Triumph
At just 17 years old, Edu Muyyassir, a freshman at Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos State, has transformed a painful rejection into a powerful story of resilience and triumph. His journey began with a setback that could have easily derailed his ambitions, but instead, it became the foundation for his first book, The Comeback Code, a motivational guide that draws from his personal experiences to inspire others to rise above life’s challenges.
Edu is an indigene of Epe Local Government Area in Lagos State and one of six children. He recently graduated from Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja. While he described himself as an average student, he discovered his true passions in writing, coding, and playing chess. “I have a passion for writing, playing chess, and coding for software development. I can also design websites,” he said.
His journey into writing was sparked by one of the most painful moments of his life. After securing a flight ticket to study in the United States, his student visa was denied. “The rejection moved me to tears. It broke me, and I lost my joy. I was on the edge of depression, but instead of sulking, I decided to channel my pain into something meaningful,” he recalled.
That resolve led to the creation of The Comeback Code, which offers practical strategies for readers, including students, workers, and artisans, to rebuild confidence and rediscover purpose after setbacks. “The book encourages readers to be deliberate about their growth; to have the willingness and determination to start over again, believe again, and win again,” he explained.
Muyyassir also addresses parenting and spiritual resilience in his work. “For many people, when things go wrong, they blame God. I try to help them understand that there is always light at the end of the tunnel, and that struggle can be a path to prosperity,” he said.
In addition to his literary endeavors, Edu developed an app to support people battling addiction. He hopes to publish more self-help books and motivational courses in the near future. With ambitions of becoming a data analyst, philanthropist, and eventually a policymaker, the 17-year-old said he wants to mentor young people across Africa and inspire them to find strength in their struggles.
