Introduction to a Sustainable Innovation

Tonmatpan, a leading manufacturer under the Tonmat Group, has made a significant breakthrough in the construction materials industry. The company has successfully developed and produced polyisocyanurate (PIR) panels using hydrofluoroolefin (HFO), a material that stands out for its environmental benefits, safety, and superior thermal insulation properties. This innovation marks a milestone for Vietnam's construction sector, offering a new standard in sustainable building solutions.

Key Features of HFO-Based PIR Panels

One of the most notable aspects of HFO is its low global warming potential (GWP) and zero ozone-depletion potential. These characteristics make it an environmentally friendly choice, reducing the carbon footprint associated with traditional insulation materials. Additionally, HFO enhances safety during both production and application. It is non-flammable, non-toxic, and poses no health risks to workers or end-users, making it a safer alternative to other insulating materials.

The thermal conductivity of conventional PIR panels typically ranges between 0.020–0.022 W/m·K. In contrast, Tonmatpan’s HFO PIR panel achieves a thermal conductivity of 0.01837 W/m·K, which is among the lowest reported in Vietnam. This lower thermal conductivity means better insulation, helping to reduce energy loss and operating costs for buildings.

Beyond Thermal Insulation: Additional Benefits

In addition to their excellent thermal performance, HFO-based PIR panels offer several other advantages. They have high mechanical strength, are resistant to fire and moisture, and can withstand harsh conditions over a long service life. Their smooth, bright finish also makes them visually appealing, suitable for both industrial applications and modern civil and commercial projects.

Global Trends and Local Demand

As countries around the world strive toward net-zero emissions, green building materials are becoming increasingly important. Many developed markets enforce strict energy and environmental standards, requiring materials that are economical, safe, and eco-friendly. In Vietnam, this demand is growing rapidly due to urbanization and the expansion of industrial parks, logistics centers, commercial hubs, and high-end residences.

Sandwich panels, such as those produced by Tonmatpan, are becoming a strategic building material because they can reduce electricity consumption by 20%–40% thanks to their very low heat transfer coefficients (U-values). Their use indirectly lowers CO2 emissions by cutting electricity needs for cooling and preservation systems. They also enable faster assembly and installation, about 40%–60% quicker than traditional materials, reducing construction time, labor, and long-term operating costs.

Applications and Strategic Positioning

Tonmatpan’s HFO-based PIR panels are well-suited for various applications, including cold storage and food-preservation warehouses, where stable temperatures and lower electricity use are critical. They are also ideal for processing and manufacturing plants, factories, and logistics centers, where large-scale, durable, and efficient solutions are required. In civil and commercial buildings such as supermarkets, offices, and green projects, these panels provide energy savings and aesthetic appeal.

Tran Trung Kien, deputy director of Tonmatpan's International Trade Department, highlighted the company’s mastery of green, safe, and environmentally friendly inputs like HFO. He emphasized that this innovation positions Tonmatpan as a top choice for foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in Vietnam and opens up opportunities to enter markets with strict standards for green materials, such as the EU, Japan, and the U.S.

Commitment to Sustainability

The successful production of HFO-based PIR panels expands Tonmatpan’s portfolio of high-quality products and underscores the company's and Tonmat Group's long-term commitment to sustainable development. This technological advancement is not only a step forward in innovation but also aligns with the group's broader vision to contribute to Vietnam's goals in emissions reduction, energy savings, and green economic growth.

Ha Van Lung, head of production at Tonmatpan, emphasized that this move is strategic in creating modern, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly buildings. He stated that this success affirms the company's research and technological innovation capabilities while contributing to enhancing Vietnam's thermal insulation materials industry.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, Tonmatpan plans to continue investing in modern technology, improving product quality, advancing green production, and reducing emissions. The company aims to meet domestic demand while becoming a pioneering brand that brings "Made in Vietnam" green insulation products to international markets. Targeting regions with strict standards such as the EU, Japan, and the U.S., Tonmatpan seeks to affirm the position of Vietnamese enterprises on the global construction materials map and contribute to spreading the value of sustainable development for the community and society.
