South Korea's Flag Illuminates the Burj Khalifa During State Visit

The flag of South Korea was prominently displayed on the exterior wall of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, located in Dubai, UAE. This gesture marked a significant moment during President Lee Jae-myung’s state visit to the UAE. The UAE side illuminated the Burj Khalifa’s exterior with the South Korean flag on the night of the 18th, local time, as a symbol of goodwill and diplomatic relations. Standing at an impressive height of 828 meters, the Burj Khalifa is not only the world’s highest structure but also a testament to architectural innovation. The building was primarily constructed by Samsung C&T, highlighting the strong ties between South Korea and the UAE.
Extensive Display of South Korean Flags Across Major Roads
In line with the president’s state visit from the 17th to the 19th, the UAE side made a grand display of the South Korean flag along major roads from the airport in Abu Dhabi, the capital, to the presidential palace area. This initiative reflected the high regard in which the UAE holds its South Korean counterpart. On the night of the 17th, when the president arrived, several key institutions and downtown landmark buildings also illuminated their exteriors with South Korean flag-shaped lights. These included the national oil company Adnoc headquarters, the sovereign wealth fund Mubadala, and the Abu Dhabi Korea Center for International Finance, among others.
Aerial Welcome for President Lee Jae-myung

As the presidential aircraft (Air Force One) carrying President Lee entered UAE airspace, it was met with a unique and symbolic gesture. Four fighter jets escorted the aircraft, showcasing the UAE’s commitment to ensuring a safe and memorable journey for the South Korean leader. On the 18th, as the president entered the presidential palace in Abu Dhabi for the summit, the Air Force squadron performed aerobatic flights while emitting red and blue smoke—colors that represent the South Korean flag. This aerial display was a powerful visual representation of the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Cultural Welcome Along the Presidential Route

As the vehicle carrying President Lee traveled toward the presidential palace, local girls in the UAE performed the traditional ‘Al-Ayyala’ dance. This cultural performance involved swaying their long hair from side to side on both sides of the road, creating a visually striking welcome. In addition, camels and a mounted cavalry unit lined up in a single file to greet the president, adding a touch of traditional Arabian hospitality to the occasion. These gestures underscored the deep respect and admiration the UAE has for South Korea and its leadership.
