Circular Packaging Initiative Cuts Plastic Waste

Innovating Thailand's Circular Economy with Sustainable Packaging

Thailand is making significant strides in its transition toward a circular economy, driven by innovative partnerships between global and local companies. One such collaboration involves Dow (NYSE: DOW), Copeland, and MMP Corporation, which have introduced a groundbreaking pallet-wrapping film made with 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. This initiative marks a major step forward in sustainable packaging solutions and highlights the potential of circular materials in industrial applications.

The new stretch-film is produced using REVOLOOPS Recycled Plastics Resins developed by Dow Thailand. These resins are designed to deliver high performance while significantly reducing environmental impact. According to a product carbon footprint study, the film has 52.5% lower cradle-to-gate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to the global average for virgin linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) production. This achievement underscores the importance of recycling in reducing the carbon footprint of industrial materials.

A Strategic Partnership for Sustainability

The partnership between Dow, Copeland, and MMP Corporation is rooted in a shared commitment to sustainability. Copeland, a global leader in sustainable climate solutions, has long been focused on enhancing sustainability within its logistics operations in Thailand. The introduction of this new film aligns with the company’s broader goals of integrating circular materials into its packaging and supply chain processes.

Dow proposed its Global Recycled Standard-certified resin as a solution that could meet these sustainability objectives. MMP Corporation, Thailand's leading stretch-film manufacturer, then took on the task of manufacturing and testing the film through multiple field trials. These trials ensured that the product met the required standards for durability and consistency. After receiving positive results, Copeland officially adopted the film in May 2025.

Performance Meets Sustainability

Despite containing 30% mechanically recycled resin, the new stretch film maintains the clarity, strength, and flexibility expected from high-quality pallet wrapping. It is also fully recyclable, reinforcing its alignment with global circularity goals. This innovation proves that sustainable materials can match the performance of traditional options without compromising quality or functionality.

Michael Toh, President, Asia-Pacific for Copeland, emphasized the significance of this collaboration. "At Copeland, we prioritise solutions that help build a more sustainable future. This collaboration marks a meaningful step in integrating circular materials into our packaging and logistics," he said.

Ms Kamolchanok Chongsathien, CEO of MMP Corporation Ltd, added, "We are proud to collaborate with Dow and Copeland to deliver a film that contains recycled content without compromising strength or transparency, helping drive Thailand's industrial sector toward true sustainability."

A Model for Scalable Sustainability

Mr Vichan Tangkengsirisin, President of Dow Thailand, highlighted the company’s role in supporting customers in lowering their carbon footprint. "Dow is honoured to support customers in lowering their carbon footprint through certified, traceable recycled materials," he said. "REVOLOOPS is helping our partners transition to circular packaging in a tangible and scalable way."

The success of this project serves as a model for other industries looking to adopt sustainable practices. By leveraging recycled materials, companies can reduce their environmental impact while maintaining the quality and reliability of their products.

Key Details of the Product

  • Recycled Content: 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content
