DAAF Honored with OSRA in Ile-Ife

A Day of Honor and Humanity

On Saturday, 18th October 2025, I had the privilege of leading a 24-man DAAF Team to the sacred city of Ile-Ife. The journey was not just a physical one but a symbolic step towards recognizing the profound impact of our humanitarian efforts in Nigeria. Our destination was the prestigious Oodua Special Recognition Award (OSRA), an honor that celebrates those who embody service, compassion, and dedication to community development.

The OSRA ceremony is held annually to commemorate the birthday of His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II. This event brings together individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to society, particularly in areas such as the welfare of the elderly, orphans, and widows. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of community upliftment and the value of selfless service.

Being named a Special Guest of Honour at this grand event was a moment of immense pride. I had the unique opportunity to engage in a personal conversation and photo session with His Imperial Majesty, Kabiyesi Ojaja II. His warmth and wisdom left a lasting impression on me. One of the most memorable moments came when he joyfully conversed in Yoruba with my British-born daughter. He affectionately encouraged her to find love in Nigeria, a gesture that beautifully symbolized the connection between tradition and the new generation.

As part of our visit, the DAAF Foundation presented food items to 51 beneficiaries, including elderly people, widows, and widowers. This act of kindness was a humble way of honoring Kabiyesi’s legacy of love, generosity, and community upliftment. The 51 beneficiaries were chosen to celebrate the 51st birthday of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II. Each recipient received not only food but also a message of hope and support from our foundation.

This day was filled with pride, purpose, and gratitude. It reminded me that service to humanity remains the highest calling. The experience reinforced the importance of bridging cultural gaps and fostering connections that transcend generations and backgrounds.

Key Highlights of the Visit

  • Cultural Exchange: The interaction with His Imperial Majesty highlighted the significance of preserving and promoting traditional values while embracing modernity.
  • Community Impact: The distribution of food to 51 beneficiaries underscored the tangible difference that small acts of kindness can make in the lives of others.
  • Personal Connection: The heartfelt conversation with Kabiyesi Ojaja II created a meaningful bond between our team and the local community.

Reflections on Service and Legacy

The OSRA ceremony was more than just an event; it was a celebration of values that resonate deeply within the heart of our foundation. The recognition we received served as a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team over the years. It also inspired us to continue our mission of supporting vulnerable communities across Nigeria.

As we reflect on this special day, we are reminded of the power of unity and the importance of standing together in service. The legacy of His Imperial Majesty continues to inspire us, and we are committed to carrying forward his vision of compassion and community development.

In conclusion, the experience in Ile-Ife was a profound reminder of the impact we can make when we come together for a common cause. It was a day filled with gratitude, inspiration, and a renewed sense of purpose. We look forward to continuing our work and making a positive difference in the lives of those in need.
