Jin Haeseong Loses School Violence Lawsuit, Accepts Verdict

Legal Dispute Over School Violence Allegations
Trot singer Jin Haeseong has reportedly lost a civil and criminal lawsuit against a netizen who accused him of past school violence. In response to the court's decision, Jin expressed his disappointment but emphasized his respect for the legal process.
Jin shared a detailed message on his Instagram on the 18th, addressing the recent controversies surrounding him. He stated, “I would like to address the recent issues surrounding me.”
The controversy began after Jin won KBS2’s Trot National Games in 2021. A netizen, referred to as Netizen A, posted online that he had experienced school violence from Jin during their middle school years. Jin's team responded by filing a lawsuit against the netizen, seeking both civil and criminal action.
In a recent ruling by Seoul Central District Court Civil Division 20 (Judge Lee Sera), the court sided with Netizen A in a lawsuit where Jin and his agency sought 10 million Korean won in damages. The decision became final as Jin's side did not appeal. It was also reported that the defamation charges against Netizen A were dismissed.
Jin mentioned, “I initially won a provisional disposition application in the civil lawsuit.” This decision required Netizen A to delete posts related to Jin and pay 3 million Korean won per day if he failed to comply.
Jin explained his decision not to appeal, stating, “The lawsuit was not filed to receive compensation but to stop the other party’s actions, and I hoped for an end to the controversy. However, I am upset because articles are portraying it as if I admitted to the school violence.”
Jin’s lawyer added, “Since Netizen A has deleted all internet posts and ceased obstructive actions for four years following the provisional disposition decision, we expect a peaceful resolution without further dispute by not filing an appeal.”
Personal Reflections and Apology
Jin emphasized his desire to avoid disappointing those who believed in him or causing trouble for people around him. He felt compelled to speak out publicly, hoping that this post would bring an end to the ongoing controversy.
He concluded his message with a sincere apology, saying, “I am sorry for the concern caused.”
