Democratic Party Leader Condemns Prosecutorial Insubordination

On the 10th, the Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Byung-kee, addressed a pressing issue concerning the backlash from some prosecutors regarding the “Daejang-dong development corruption case appeal abandonment.” He described the actions of pro-Yoon Suk-yeol political prosecutors as “coup-like insubordination,” calling it a “disgraceful spectacle.”

During the party’s Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Kim expressed his concerns about the prosecution's conduct. He stated, “They conducted politically motivated prosecutions bordering on fabrication, and even after their flimsy logic and evidence were thoroughly dismantled in court, they show no shame.” He further questioned how these prosecutors could remain so arrogant despite their true colors being exposed in the Daejang-dong court of first instance. “They still delude themselves into thinking they stand above the law,” he added.

Kim emphasized that the insubordination by a small group of political prosecutors, led by Prosecutor Kang Bak-seok, was a challenge to the people and democracy. “This resistance by the political prosecution must be crushed thoroughly this time,” he said.

He also highlighted the party’s commitment to uncovering the truth behind the political prosecution’s actions. “We will mobilize all possible means—national investigations, hearings, and a special counsel—to reveal what actions you have taken,” Kim asserted. This approach reflects the party’s determination to hold those accountable for any misconduct.

In addition to addressing the prosecutorial issues, Kim pointed out Yoon Suk-yeol’s actions following the National Assembly’s resolution to lift martial law. “Yoon Suk-yeol sent a diplomatic document to the U.S. seeking justification and support for martial law,” he noted. According to Kim, this act exposed Yoon Suk-yeol’s second attempt at insurrection as fact.

Calls for Investigation and Accountability

The Democratic Party has urged a thorough investigation by a special counsel. “The responsibility of insurrection ringleader Yoon Suk-yeol and his accomplices must be clarified,” Kim stated. He also issued a warning to the pro-Yoon prosecutors, urging them to stop idolizing Yoon Suk-yeol and covering up his and Kim Keon-hee’s crimes. “Reflect on your remaining lives for the sin of betraying the nation and its people,” he added.

Kim’s remarks underscored the party’s stance against what it perceives as a threat to democratic values and the rule of law. The party is determined to ensure that those who engage in such actions face the consequences of their decisions.
