Olive Young Launches First U.S. Store in California

Expansion into the U.S. Market

CJ Olive Young, a well-known name in the Korean beauty industry, has announced its plans to open its first physical store in the United States. The company is set to launch this new venture in May of next year, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy. As K-beauty continues to gain international recognition, Olive Young is leveraging this growing trend to enter the U.S. offline market, which is considered the largest beauty market in the world.

Strategic Location for the First Store

The first U.S. Olive Young store will be located in Pasadena, California. This city, situated 18 km northeast of Los Angeles (LA), is known for its affluent residents and proximity to prestigious institutions such as the California Institute of Technology. An official from Olive Young explained that the area’s high-income population makes it an ideal location for the brand’s expansion. The presence of these research institutions also contributes to a demographic that is likely to appreciate and engage with the brand's offerings.

Expansion Strategy in California

Olive Young’s plan for the U.S. market includes a phased approach to opening multiple stores. The initial store in Pasadena will be followed by another in Westfield, LA, in the same year. This sequential strategy aims to build momentum and create a strong local presence from the outset. By starting with these locations, Olive Young hopes to tap into the consumer interest and establish a foundation for future growth.

Customizing the U.S. Store Experience

To ensure the U.S. stores align with local preferences, Olive Young will base its design on data collected from North American customers who have used Korean Olive Young stores and the ‘Olive Young Global Mall.’ This approach allows the company to tailor its product selection and in-store experience to meet the specific needs and tastes of American consumers.

Diverse Product Offerings

Olive Young is also working on securing partnerships with over 400 K-beauty brands as well as global brands. This extensive collaboration ensures that the U.S. stores will offer a wide range of products across various beauty and wellness categories. The goal is to provide customers with a comprehensive shopping experience that reflects the diversity of the global beauty market.
