Paik Jong-won Returns to MBC Show After Hiatus Video Removal

Paik Jong-won's Sudden Move and the Fate of His YouTube Channel

The video in which Paik Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea, announced the suspension of his broadcasting activities has mysteriously disappeared from his personal YouTube channel. This move has sparked widespread speculation about his future plans and actions.

As of the 24th, a video titled “Let’s Start Over from the Beginning,” which was originally posted on Paik’s YouTube channel in May, has been taken down. In this video, Paik addressed various controversies that had arisen, including issues related to origin labeling errors and poor hygiene management. He expressed his apologies and declared a temporary suspension of his broadcasting activities.

In the video, Paik stated, “All problems lie with me,” and added, “From now on, I will suspend all broadcasting activities except for the program currently being filmed.” He also mentioned, “As Paik Jong-won, an entrepreneur rather than a broadcaster, I will focus all my passion and energy entirely on the growth of The Born Korea and the development of our franchisees.”

Return to Broadcasting

Despite his announcement, Paik made a return to domestic broadcasting through MBC’s new variety program “Chef of the Antarctic” on the 17th. This marked approximately six months after he initially declared his hiatus. The program features the cast visiting the King Sejong Station in Antarctica as “honorary members” to serve the station’s crew a warm meal.

Regarding his decision to go to Antarctica, Paik shared on the broadcast, “I wondered what I could do for the members,” and added, “If I can do it, I should. It’s something like a sense of duty.”

Production Team's Response

PD Hwang Soon-gyu, who directed the program, responded to a question about whether the participant’s personal issues affected the broadcast during a Q&A session released on the 3rd. He stated, “Chef of the Antarctic is not a cooking show centered on the participant,” and explained, “Filming began in November of last year, and it was already a completed work awaiting broadcast.” He added, “I understand the company deeply considered the matter after the broadcast was postponed once due to external circumstances, followed by the participant’s issue.”

Channel Reorganization

The production team of Paik’s YouTube channel made an official announcement on the 31st of last month. They said, “We are grateful to our viewers who have been with us for six years,” and added, “Starting from November 3rd, we will proceed with a sequential channel corner reorganization to provide richer content.”
