Samsung Electronics Reclaims Top DRAM Market Position

Samsung Regains Top Position in Global DRAM Market
Samsung Electronics has once again claimed the top position in the global DRAM market for the third quarter of this year, according to a recent survey. The company's strong performance was highlighted by a significant increase in sales revenue and market share.
According to market research firm China Flash Market (CFM), Samsung’s third-quarter DRAM sales revenue rose by 29.6% compared to the previous quarter, reaching $13.942 billion (approximately 20.44 trillion Korean won). This achievement allowed Samsung to secure a 34.8% market share, regaining its position as the leading player in the DRAM market. CFM noted that the overall DRAM sales hit a record high, driven by rising prices in general-purpose DRAM, which enabled Samsung to reclaim its top spot.

Recovery from Previous Setbacks
Samsung had previously lost its DRAM market leadership to SK Hynix in the first quarter, following a decline in its dominance within the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) sector. However, the company managed to partially recover its HBM competitiveness during the second half of this year. Combined with increasing DRAM prices, Samsung's large production capacity played a key role in driving a surge in sales, ultimately allowing it to regain the top position.
SK Hynix recorded $13.79 billion in DRAM sales during the third quarter, securing a 34.4% market share and finishing in second place. U.S.-based Micron followed closely behind with a 22.4% market share, while Taiwan’s Nanya Technology held a smaller share at 1.6%.
NAND Flash Market Leadership
In addition to its success in the DRAM market, Samsung maintained its leadership in the NAND flash market. The company reported $5.366 billion in NAND flash sales, capturing a 29.1% market share. SK Hynix came in second with $3.536 billion in sales and a 19.2% market share. Kioxia secured third place with $3.046 billion (16.5%), followed by SanDisk with $2.308 billion (12.5%) and Micron with $2.252 billion (12.2%).
Record Growth in the Memory Market
The global memory market reached a record high of $58.459 billion this year. Specifically, the DRAM market grew by 24.7% quarter-on-quarter to $40.037 billion, while the NAND flash market expanded by 16.8% to $18.422 billion.
CFM pointed out that as demand for AI servers continues to rise, concerns over supply shortages in consumer applications such as mobile and PC devices are intensifying. These factors have led to price increases across the memory market. With ongoing demand and limited supply, the market is expected to set another record in the fourth quarter.
