Saturday Rain, Clouds Yield to Monday's Cold Snap

Weather Forecast for the Weekend and Early Week

Saturday, the 25th, will see mostly cloudy conditions across the country. Rain is expected in certain areas, particularly on Jeju Island. The weather is expected to remain relatively mild throughout the weekend, but a return of colder temperatures is anticipated starting from Monday, the 27th.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), South Korea will be affected by a continental high-pressure system moving from northeastern China toward the West Sea (Yellow Sea) on Saturday. This system is expected to bring rain to areas around Jeju Island and the southern coastal regions of North Gyeongsang Province. Inland areas of North Gyeongsang Province and other regions are also likely to experience rain during the afternoon. Given the likelihood of rain showers in many inland areas, it is recommended to carry a small umbrella if planning to engage in outdoor activities. Precipitation levels are expected to vary: less than 5 mm in inland North Gyeongsang and the southern coastal regions, 5–20 mm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo, and 5–20 mm in Jeju.

Sunday's Forecast: Cloudy with Some Rain

Sunday, the 26th, will also be mostly cloudy across the country, with gradual clearing expected from the afternoon, especially in Gangwon Province and the Gyeongsang region. Rain showers are expected in Jeju Island and the South Gyeongsang region until the morning. Some areas in the capital region and South Chungcheong Province may see light rain in the afternoon. For regions without rain during the weekend, the weather should generally be suitable for outdoor activities.

The daytime high temperature on Saturday is forecasted to range between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius.

Cold Air Arrival and Temperature Drop

Starting from the night of the 26th, cold air moving in from the north will lead to a significant drop in temperatures next week. On Monday morning, the 27th, temperatures are expected to decrease by approximately 5–10 degrees compared to the previous day. Some areas, particularly in inland central regions and mountainous areas, may experience temperatures below freezing. The expected low temperature on the 27th is between -2 and 11 degrees Celsius, while the daytime high is forecasted to be between 8 and 16 degrees Celsius. Strong winds are also expected, which could make the perceived temperature feel even lower.

Key Takeaways

  • Rainfall: Areas such as Jeju Island, North Gyeongsang Province, and the southern coastal regions are expected to see moderate rainfall.
  • Temperature Trends: A shift towards colder weather is expected starting Monday, with a noticeable drop in temperatures.
  • Weather Conditions: While the weekend will be mostly cloudy, there are opportunities for outdoor activities in areas without rain.
  • Preparation Tips: Carrying an umbrella and being prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions is advisable, especially in regions where rain is expected.

As the weather continues to evolve, staying updated with local forecasts will help in planning daily activities effectively.
