Telecel and Huawei Sign MoU for Network Modernization and Digital Transformation

Strategic Partnership Between Telecel Group and Huawei

Telecel Group and Huawei Technologies have entered into a significant collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement focuses on a major network modernization and digital infrastructure project, aimed at boosting Ghana’s telecom innovation and connectivity. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to accelerating technological progress and expanding access to essential services.

The MoU outlines a framework for cooperation on the Telecel Ghana Rollout Project, a multi-phase initiative valued at approximately US$70 million. This ambitious project is designed to enhance network performance and deliver next-generation digital services to both consumers and enterprises throughout Ghana. The implementation of the expansion has already begun in November 2025, marking the official start of an extensive rollout that will involve phased network upgrades across key regions of the country.

Malek Atrissi, COO of Telecel Group, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “For Telecel Group, this MoU represents a significant step forward in our long-standing collaboration with Huawei, the Group’s strategic partner across its different markets. It aligns with the Group’s mission to advance digital infrastructure and innovative services in Ghana, aligning with broader efforts to expand connectivity and drive sustainable growth.”

Patricia Obo-Nai, CEO of Telecel Ghana, added: “This partnership marks an important milestone in our mission to deliver world-class digital experiences to our customers. Huawei’s proven expertise and technology leadership will help us enhance capacity, reliability, and innovation within Ghana’s telecom landscape.”

Huawei also expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are proud to strengthen our long-term partnership with Telecel and to contribute to Ghana’s digital transformation. This MOU reflects our shared vision of building an intelligent, inclusive, and connected future.”

Key Objectives of the Collaboration

The collaboration between Telecel Group and Huawei is centered around several key objectives:

  • Network Modernization: Upgrading existing telecommunications infrastructure to support higher speeds, better coverage, and more reliable service.
  • Digital Services Expansion: Introducing advanced digital solutions that cater to both individual users and businesses, enhancing overall connectivity.
  • Sustainable Growth: Ensuring that the project supports long-term economic development and digital inclusion across Ghana.

The signed MoU highlights the strategic intent of both organizations to advance connectivity and promote sustainable growth within Africa’s telecom ecosystem.
