Two Arrested in Attack on Fuji Musician Obesere

Incident Involving Popular Fuji Musician Sparks Outcry

A recent incident involving a popular Fuji musician, Mr. Abass Akande, also known as Obesere, has sparked widespread concern and calls for justice. The attack occurred during a burial ceremony in Okitipupa town, the headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area in Ondo State.

The musician had previously urged the state government to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the attack on him and the destruction of his equipment. According to reports, suspected thugs allegedly attacked Obesere at the burial ceremony, where he was invited to entertain guests. The attackers reportedly stormed the venue, harassed the musician, and attempted to extort money from him.

This led to a struggle between Obesere’s band members and the suspected thugs. During the chaos, the money Obesere had received for his performance was allegedly taken by the attackers, who also injured some of his band members.

Police Response and Arrests

In response to the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the event and stated that two suspects had been arrested. He added that an investigation into the matter had already begun.

“Yes, the incident happened, and two suspects have been arrested; they are in our custody with the exhibit. Investigation had begun.” Ayanlade said.

Local Government Chairman's Statement

The chairman of Okitipupa LGA, Mr. Andrew Ogunsakin, expressed deep disappointment over the incident. He described it as “unfortunate and unacceptable,” emphasizing that such behavior does not reflect the values upheld by the community.

“I received the news of the unfortunate mistreatment meted out to Abbas Akande Obesere and his team yesterday at the Government Field, Okitipupa, with deep disappointment and utmost distaste. This incident is unacceptable and does not reflect the values we uphold as a people.”

Ogunsakin assured the public that necessary steps would be taken to address the matter and prevent similar occurrences in the future. He also mentioned that he would personally reach out to Obesere and his team to express regret and set the record straight.

Media Manager's Account of the Attack

The media manager of the musician, Ayonla Authentic, provided a detailed account of the incident. According to his statement, after Obesere concluded his performance, large groups of individuals surrounded the area. One group targeted him due to the bag of money he was carrying.

Despite efforts to leave peacefully, the attackers confronted them aggressively, demanding the bag of money. When refused, a violent struggle ensued. Ayonla Authentic was beaten, suffered a dislocated shoulder, and was struck with a knife while trying to get into the car. He sustained multiple blows and was in significant pain.

During the attack, another group continued to harass Obesere even after he attempted to placate them by giving money. Ayonla Authentic guided Obesere into their vehicle, and they left the scene to seek safety and medical attention.

Calls for Justice and Prevention

The media manager condemned the criminal and violent behavior, calling on local authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible. He emphasized the need for measures to prevent similar incidents at public events.

“We condemn this criminal and violent behaviour in the strongest terms. Such attacks on performers, their teams, and mourners at a burial ceremony are unacceptable. We call on local authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible and to take measures to prevent similar incidents at public events.”
