UOB Run Sparks Digital Learning Revolution

UOB Thailand Heartbeat Run Celebrates 15th Anniversary with Record Fundraising

The UOB Thailand Heartbeat Run, marking its 15th anniversary, has once again demonstrated the power of community and collaboration. This year’s event raised an impressive THB5.3 million, which will be used to provide digital learning tools to students in remote communities across Thailand.

The funds collected will support the establishment of 10 UOB My Digital Space (MDS) classrooms, benefiting a total of 5,700 students in areas such as Kanchanaburi, Surat Thani, Khon Kaen, Chonburi, Phayao, Lampang, Sing Buri, Udon Thani, Krabi, and Suphan Buri. These regions often struggle with limited access to digital equipment, making the introduction of these classrooms a vital resource for students learning subjects like mathematics, science, English, and financial skills.

Since the launch of the UOB MDS programme in partnership with the Thailand Collaboration for Education (TCFE) in 2022, the UOB Heartbeat Run has successfully raised THB17 million. This initiative has empowered teachers to confidently integrate technology into their classrooms, offering students their first meaningful experience with modern digital learning tools.

Mr Richard Maloney, President and CEO of UOB Thailand, emphasized the significance of the milestone. He stated, “The milestone reflects a shared commitment to giving children a fair chance. Behind every baht raised are people who believe in opening doors for the next generation. This year's support will help students gain skills that can shape their future. We are grateful to everyone who ran, donated and helped make this possible.”

Ms Kanokwan Chowsri, Director of Thailand Collaboration for Education, Yuvabadhana Foundation, highlighted the direct impact of the program in classrooms. She said, “Many students in remote areas rarely get access to digital learning. These classrooms allow them to explore, practise and gain skills that will stay with them for a long time even after they leave school. This partnership shows what can be achieved when we work together.”

A Global Commitment to Community Development

The UOB Heartbeat Run is an annual flagship volunteering and fundraising programme held globally across the region. Every year, employees, partners, and customers come together for this event through volunteering, fundraising, and participating in the physical run and walk. This year’s event was held in conjunction with UOB Group's 90th anniversary, reinforcing the Bank's long-standing commitment to uplifting communities.

The Heartbeat Run has become more than just a sporting event; it is a symbol of unity and purpose. It brings together individuals from all walks of life to contribute to a common cause—ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality education and opportunities for growth.

Over the years, the UOB Heartbeat Run has not only raised significant funds but also created a lasting impact on the communities it serves. The initiative has inspired a culture of giving and has motivated participants to continue supporting educational development in underserved areas.

Future Goals and Continued Support

Looking ahead, UOB Thailand remains dedicated to expanding the reach of the UOB MDS programme. The goal is to introduce more digital classrooms in other regions, ensuring that more students have access to the tools and resources they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world.

The success of the UOB Heartbeat Run is a testament to the power of collective effort. It showcases how businesses, communities, and individuals can come together to create meaningful change. As the event continues to grow, so does its potential to transform lives and build a brighter future for the next generation.

With each passing year, the UOB Heartbeat Run reinforces its mission of fostering education, innovation, and community empowerment. The record-breaking fundraising this year is a clear indicator of the strong support and belief in the cause, and it sets a positive precedent for future initiatives.
