Vietnam Airlines unveils first Jakarta-Hanoi direct flight

New Direct Flight Between Jakarta and Hanoi Enhances Connectivity

Vietnam Airlines has launched a new direct flight connecting Jakarta, Indonesia, with Hanoi, Vietnam. The inaugural journey took off from Soekarno–Hatta International Airport on November 23, marking a significant step in strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries.

The first flight from Jakarta carried 131 passengers and arrived in Hanoi at 05:50 on the same day, after a flight duration of 4 hours and 20 minutes. This was followed by a return trip, with flight VN635 departing Hanoi at 20:15 on November 22 and landing in Jakarta at 00:40 on November 23. These flights highlight the growing demand for seamless travel between the two regions.

Aircraft and Route Details

The service is operated using Airbus A321 aircraft, which have a capacity to carry up to 185 passengers. This route is expected to play a crucial role in boosting bilateral economic, trade, and tourism exchanges between Indonesia and Vietnam.

Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates daily services between Ho Chi Minh City and Jakarta, as well as between Ho Chi Minh City and Bali. The new Jakarta–Hanoi route is scheduled to operate five times a week. However, plans are already in place to increase this frequency to seven flights per week starting next April, as announced by Tran Tuan Nghia, Vietnam Airlines’ chief representative in Indonesia.

Improved Services and Collaboration

Made Hardika, director for human resources at Gapura Angkasa – Indonesia’s largest ground-handling service provider – highlighted the strong collaboration between his company and Vietnam Airlines at both Soekarno–Hatta and Denpasar (Bali) airports. He praised the airline’s expansion into the Indonesian market, noting that it has been impressive and effective.

He expressed confidence in Vietnam Airlines’ continued growth, emphasizing its potential to further enhance tourism, economic cooperation, and connectivity between the two countries.

Benefits for Travelers and Businesses

With the introduction of this direct flight, travelers between Jakarta and Hanoi can now enjoy more convenient and efficient travel options. This development is likely to encourage more business interactions and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

For tourists, the new route offers a faster way to explore the rich cultural heritage of both countries. Visitors from Indonesia can easily reach Hanoi, while those from Vietnam can now access Jakarta without the need for layovers.

Future Prospects

As Vietnam Airlines continues to expand its network in Indonesia, the increased frequency of flights will help meet the rising demand from passengers. This strategic move not only benefits travelers but also supports the broader goals of regional integration and economic development.

With the successful launch of the Jakarta–Hanoi route, the airline is setting a strong foundation for future growth and deeper collaboration between the two countries.
