Who is Dorothy in Wicked: For Good? Meet Bethany Weaver

The Enigmatic Role of Dorothy in Wicked: For Good

The eagerly awaited second part to Jon M. Chu's film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical Wicked—titled Wicked: For Good—has set new box office records in its opening week. According to reports, Wicked: For Good opened to US$147 million in North America and a total of US$223 million worldwide, surpassing the domestic opening week performance of the previous year’s Wicked. It is the biggest-ever start for a Broadway adaptation.

Led by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, the sequel features additions to the cast including Colman Domingo as the Cowardly Lion and Bethany Weaver as the iconic Dorothy Gale. Although Dorothy has no dialogue in the film and is only seen from behind or far away, the actress took to Instagram this week to celebrate her role and share some behind-the-scenes photos.

"What an honour it has been to walk on the yellow brick road with my fellow Witch Hunters [Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Omari Bernard] and not forgetting Oscar the dog (Toto)!" she wrote in the caption.

"A huge thank you to the best [filmmaker] of all time [Jon M. Chu] for choosing me to be your Dorothy in this wonderfully wicked universe called Oz. Thank you for contributing to starting my beginning," Weaver continued.

Up until Wicked: For Good's premiere, the identity of Dorothy's actress had been kept under wraps by Universal Pictures, and Weaver didn't join her cast members for any of their red carpet stops during their press tour.

Who Is Bethany Weaver?

Bethany Weaver is based in Surrey, UK. Her professional work spans choreography, dance, and acting. Her past credits include choreographing the West End musical Asmahan at the Peacock Theatre, as well as being part of the ensemble for Rumi: the Musical and Broken Wings in 2018.

According to her Instagram posts, Weaver is a twin. Her sister's name is Amber.

She graduated from Urdang in London

Weaver graduated from Urdang, a performing arts academy based in Islington, London, in 2018, according to an Instagram post she shared. "As if I graduate with a degree from @urdanglondon tomorrow?" she wrote in the caption. "Here's to the very exciting future."

Outside of work, the 30-year-old is also an avid Pilates practitioner, as per her social media posts.

A Possible Manifestation of Destiny

In March 2022, Weaver shared a video to Instagram of her singing "The Wizard and I." She wrote: "Had a little sing song after work today, I love teaching but miss performing on stage so very much.
