Asia's Stunning Island Attracts 1.6 Million International Visitors in 11 Months

Phu Quoc, a stunning island that has been recognized as the most beautiful in Asia by readers of the American magazine Condé Nast Traveler, has seen a remarkable increase in international tourism. In the first 11 months of this year, the island welcomed nearly 1.6 million international tourists, marking an 80.9% rise compared to the same period last year. This surge in visitors has significantly boosted tourism revenues, which reached VND39 trillion during the same timeframe, an impressive 99.5% increase from the previous year.

According to reports from An Giang Province's Department of Tourism, the growth in tourism can be attributed to the return of international travelers, particularly those arriving via charter flights from Russia. Phu Quoc has become a popular destination for tourists from around the world, with visitors coming from 150 countries and territories. These include Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), South Asia, and traditional markets such as Korea, China, and Japan.

The expansion of air connectivity is expected to further boost tourism on the island. Sun Phu Quoc Airways, Vietnam's newest airline, is set to launch several new routes to Phu Quoc. The Seoul–Phu Quoc route will begin operations in March 2026, followed by the Busan–Phu Quoc route in September 2026. Additionally, the airline plans to introduce the Taipei–Phu Quoc route in March of next year and the Kaohsiung–Phu Quoc route in October.

Last year, Phu Quoc received 960,000 foreign tourists, and officials are optimistic about reaching 1 million visitors this year. The island has emerged as a bright spot in Vietnam's tourism sector, drawing attention from a number of Asian celebrities. Notable figures such as actress and model Jumbo Tsang and singer-actress Gillian Chung have visited the island, adding to its appeal.

The peak travel season on Phu Quoc runs from October to May, when the weather is sunny and the sea is clear. This period attracts a large number of tourists seeking to enjoy the island's natural beauty and pristine beaches. With continued investment in infrastructure and improved air connectivity, Phu Quoc is well-positioned to maintain its status as one of Asia's top tourist destinations.
