Samsung Galaxy Z Tri-Fold: A 10-Inch Tablet in Three Folds

Samsung Electronics has introduced the Galaxy Z Tri-Fold, a three-fold foldable smartphone that marks a significant evolution in the company’s foldable phone lineup. Unveiled on the 2nd, this device represents an advanced version of foldable technology, offering users a seamless transition between a compact form factor and a large tablet-like display. When folded, it resembles a standard bar-shaped smartphone, but when fully unfolded, it reveals a 10-inch screen that rivals the size of a tablet PC. Samsung aims to solidify its position as a leader in the foldable market by leveraging its extensive technological expertise.

The Galaxy Z Tri-Fold is built with an “in-folding” design, where both sides of the screen fold inward to provide better protection for the main display. The rear external display is centrally located, with the left screen folding first and the right screen—equipped with a rear camera—folding over it. This innovative structure ensures durability while maintaining a sleek profile.

The external display measures 6.5 inches, matching the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but when fully unfolded, it expands to a 10-inch screen. This larger display offers a horizontal aspect ratio similar to that of a tablet PC, enhancing user experience for multimedia consumption and productivity tasks. The phone also features an automatic alarm system that alerts users via screen notifications and vibrations if any issues occur during the folding process. This added layer of security ensures a smooth and reliable user experience.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Galaxy Z Tri-Fold is its ability to enhance productivity and immersion through its 10-inch display. Users can run up to three apps simultaneously using the multi-window function, effectively mimicking the experience of using three smartphones at once. Samsung has optimized its default apps for this large screen, such as the ‘Samsung Internet’ app, which displays original content alongside summaries and translation results generated by ‘Galaxy AI.’ This feature makes information consumption more efficient and convenient.

When unfolded, the device measures just 3.9 mm in thickness, making it the thinnest model in the Galaxy Z Fold series. Even when folded, it remains impressively thin at 12.9 mm, surpassing the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (13.4 mm) from 2023. It is also thinner than single-fold foldable phones. However, the weight is 309 grams, approximately 100 grams heavier than previous Samsung foldable models.

The Galaxy Z Tri-Fold is powered by Qualcomm’s Galaxy-exclusive Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, identical to the one found in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This high-performance chip ensures smooth operation and enhanced processing capabilities. The device also boasts the largest battery capacity in the Galaxy foldable series history, with a 5,600 mAh battery. To ensure balanced power distribution, batteries are placed on each of the three panels. Additionally, it supports 45W ultra-fast charging, a first for the Galaxy Z series.

The Galaxy Z Tri-Fold will be released domestically on the 12th, followed by a global rollout in markets such as China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. It will be available as a single model with 16 gigabytes of memory, 512 GB of storage, and the ‘Crafted Black’ color option, priced at 3,590,400 Korean won. In South Korea, it will be sold through Samsung.com and 20 nationwide stores, including ‘Samsung Gangnam.’

Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-moon emphasized that the Galaxy Z Tri-Fold is designed to balance productivity and portability, showcasing the company’s leadership in new form factors. He stated that the device will further expand the mobile experience across work, creativity, and connectivity.
