President Tinubu Swears in New Permanent Secretaries and NPC Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a significant step in reshaping Nigeria’s administrative framework by swearing in five new permanent secretaries and the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr Aminu Yusuf. The ceremony took place just before the start of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, highlighting the importance of these appointments in the country's governance structure.

The five permanent secretaries who were sworn in include:

• Dr John Chidiebere Ezeamama from Imo State
• Ibrahim Abdulkarim Ozi from Nasarawa State
• Dr Abdul Sule Usman Garba from the North Central region
• Dr Ishiyaku Musa Mohammed from the North East
• Dr Binyerem Chigbonwu Ukaire from the South East

In addition to the permanent secretaries, Dr Aminu Yusuf, the Chairman of the NPC, was also sworn in alongside two other members of the Board: Dr Joseph Haruna Kigbu and Tonga Betara Bulatafa.

Profiles of the Newly Sworn-In Officials

Dr John Chidiebere Ezeamama, aged 54, began his career in the Federal Civil Service as a medical officer at the State House Medical Centre. He holds an MBBS from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and an MBA. His professional training includes additional qualifications from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London and the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

Ibrahim Abdulkarim Ozi, 57, has a B.Sc. in Accounting from Bayero University Kano, which he obtained in 1991. He joined the Federal Civil Service in 1992 and climbed the ranks to become Director at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation. Prior to his appointment as Permanent Secretary for the Federal Capital Territory, he served as Director of the Inspectorate Department in the same office.

Dr Abdul Sule Usman Garba, 56, graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degree from the University of Jos in 1997. He is a Primary Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. Garba started his career in the Federal Civil Service in 1999 as a medical officer in the State House Medical Centre and was promoted to Director in 2019. He also attended Course 46 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

Dr Ishiyaku Musa Mohammed, 57, earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1992, and a Master of Science in Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine in 2014. He joined the Federal Civil Service in 2009 as an Assistant Director and was promoted to Director in 2022.

Dr Aminu Yusuf, Chairman of the NPC

Dr Aminu Yusuf, 65, brings extensive experience to his role as Chairman of the NPC. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master’s in International Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He also earned a doctorate in International Relations from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

These appointments are expected to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to key government departments, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to effective governance and development.
