Reviving the NAFSA Eagle Project: A Strategic Move for National Security

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is taking significant steps to reinvigorate its capabilities in aerospace technology and operational readiness. At the forefront of this initiative is the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, who has announced the immediate resumption of the Nigerian Air Force Surveillance Aircraft (NAFSA) Eagle Project. During the 3rd quarter 2025 Defence Headquarters and Services Transformation Seminar held at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja, Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong and determined military force. The seminar, themed "Galvanizing the Will to Fight: Issues and Transformative Solutions for the Armed Forces of Nigeria," provided a platform for discussing critical issues facing the Nigerian military. Among the key points raised by the Chief of Air Staff was the strategic value of the NAFSA Eagle Project. According to him, the aircraft will be a light multi-role utility 8-seater that, once completed, will significantly contribute to the NAF's self-reliance in aerospace technology.

This initiative is expected to not only boost the NAF's operational capabilities but also promote innovation within the aviation industry. By domesticating advanced technologies, the project aims to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and foster local expertise in aerospace engineering.
