LG Display's Strategic Vision for the Future

At the ‘CES 2026’ event in Las Vegas, Jeong Cheol-dong, president of LG Display, met with reporters and shared insights into the company’s future plans. He emphasized that LG Display will not only focus on returning to profitability but also build a resilient business model that can withstand any market conditions.

Jeong highlighted the importance of technological capabilities and price competitiveness, stating that these are key factors that will ensure customer loyalty. “We must present reasons why customers have no choice but to select LG Display,” he said. The company has already achieved profitability last year, marking a significant milestone in its journey.

Embracing AI and Virtual Design

To maintain its competitive edge, LG Display is focusing on ‘AX (AI Transformation)’ and ‘VD (Virtual Design)’. These initiatives aim to enhance technological competitiveness and drive innovation in cost management. According to Jeong, AX and VD act as catalysts for accelerating innovation from research and development to production and cost reduction.

“This year, we will further expand the AX culture across all areas, including production and quality,” Jeong added. He explained that VD allows the company to reduce the number of types from 10 to 2–3, enabling physical creation and testing, which significantly reduces development costs and time.

Additionally, LG Display plans to explore how to apply and utilize current levels of robot technology (Physical AI) in its display production processes. This move underscores the company’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies to stay ahead in the industry.

Expanding into the Humanoid Robot Market

At CES 2026, LG Display unveiled its OLED technology for humanoid robots for the first time. Jeong noted that the humanoid robot sector shares similarities with automotive standards. “LG Display’s vehicle displays are highly reliable, and our flexible plastic OLEDs can sufficiently cover curved surfaces,” he said.

He added, “With the know-how and technological capabilities accumulated in the vehicle display market, we are confident in proactively responding to new customer demands in the robot sector.” The presence of numerous humanoid robots at the event made it clear that displays must innovate alongside these advancements.

Navigating the TV Market Challenges

Despite the challenges in the TV market, Jeong emphasized that LG Display’s first goal is to defend the high-end market. “While continuously enhancing the premium value of OLED, we will also respond with SE products that lower prices,” he stated.

This strategy reflects the company’s ability to adapt to changing market dynamics while maintaining its position as a leader in high-quality display technology.

Addressing Competition from China

Jeong acknowledged the growing influence of China in the display industry. “We confirmed that competition has intensified, and from a technological perspective, we must prepare and deliberate more,” he said. He stressed the importance of securing differentiated technological competitiveness, as without it, LG Display cannot stay ahead in the face of China’s advancements.

By focusing on innovation, strategic partnerships, and continuous improvement, LG Display aims to maintain its leadership in the global display market. The company’s vision for the future is clear: to remain a driving force in technological advancement and to deliver value to customers through superior products and services.
