Tragic Helicopter Crash in Ghana Leaves Eight Dead
A devastating helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, near Sikaman in the Ashanti Region has left eight individuals dead. The incident took place in Adansi and has sent shockwaves through the nation, with many mourning the loss of prominent figures who were part of a national assignment at the time.
The victims included several high-profile individuals, such as Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister; Mr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Dr Samuel Sarpong, former Ashanti Regional Minister and Vice-chairman of the NDC; and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting National Deputy Security Coordinator. Among the others who lost their lives were Mr Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO); Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Pilot; Flying Officer Manin Twum Ampadu, Co-Pilot; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Crew Member.

The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB-Ghana) has expressed its deepest condolences to all those affected by this loss.
Mr John M.K. Wumborti, the Acting Commissioner of AIB-Ghana, released a statement expressing the bureau’s sorrow over the incident. He emphasized that the passing of these individuals was a personal loss for their families and colleagues, as well as a significant blow to the country’s institutions.
“These were men of service, courage, and integrity dedicated to the peace, safety, and development of our beloved country,” he stated. “At AIB Ghana, we are acutely aware of the deep pain this loss brings. While no words can adequately ease the grief being experienced, we stand in solemn solidarity with every family affected.”
Wumborti added that the bureau offered its prayers for the departed, hoping that their legacy of dedication and patriotism would continue to inspire Ghanaians. “May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.
